For 24 years, Kenya has managed disasters without a comprehensive legal framework to coordinate disaster activities and relying on a workforce of approximately 40 personnel at the national level. The country is now moving toward a stronger and more structured system through the proposed Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Bill which seeks to establish a National Disaster Risk Management Authority and County Disaster Risk Management Committees, paving the way for the recruitment and deployment of disaster management professionals across the country.

It is under the administration of H.E. President @WilliamsRuto that the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Bill has finally been considered and passed by both the @NAssemblyKE and the @Senate_KE. Following mediation between the two Houses, a harmonized version of the Bill was approved and is now awaiting Presidential assent.
