@StephChiocci Leg speed and two-way running ability/want is the obvious difference imo

Like for like, the Dees may have a slightly more talented list than the Blues yet they’re game play is worlds apart - how much of this is in between the ears? The coach? Game plan?

Are Essendon getting worse? And in another prime time slot, didn’t @AFL not take anything from last years scheduling debacle?

Might be time to slot the bombers into that Sunday twilight slot you’d think

R10. Arcora gets the cleanest stalking setup and strongest execution support. Litzdeel looks well placed in a race that should reward stamina. Magnaspin gets his ideal economical run, even if the tape caps the upside.

R9. War Machine gets a beautifully clean stalking setup. Baraqiel maps into his best launch role. Tentyris, De Bergerac, Disneck, Geegees Mistruth and Wodeton all get strong straight track late run setups.

Best placed horses imo, from a pure setup perspective, at Flemington tomorrow 🧵

Autumn Stakes - looks to be a bit of speed in this with a few go forward runners, could set up for one getting a soft run behind the speed. Crocodile & Onavuitton look the best placed stalkers if the leaders overdo it, rated $7.5 & $10 respectively in my book

Big picture: on-pace and stalker roles with execution dominate this meeting. True backmarkers need elite handling or luck. The danger zone is leader dependent horses without guaranteed control, and grinders stuck in races that don’t stretch. That’s Caulfield today.

On the flip side, My Brothers Keeper is a clear fade for me. Wrong trip and wrong shape. Slane looks leader dependent in a race that won’t hand him control. Bel Merci cops a brutal pressure setup. These are profiles getting actively suppressed today.

I’ve taken a look at Caulfield today, this is how i see it purely from a map and race fit angle. Rail out, on-pace friendly and not a lot of forgiveness for horses that need help. I’m looking for runners where the role is achievable & lets them convert. A few really stand out. 🧵
