This is obviously not the case for most Americans but I've taken to calling it "FIFA" occasionally because to me "The World Cup" is the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup (not to be confused with the ICC Men's T20 World Cup or the ICC Women's World Cup or the ICC Women's T20 World Cup)

Point is, there are a lot of different "World Cups" for a lot of different sports and I don't think it's a bad thing to refer to the event as FIFA.

Not to mention the ISU Speed Skating World Cup (which isn't even a single tournament, but rather a Grand Prix-style series) which isn't to be confused with what was formerly known as the ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup (now World Tour).
