Brilliant to deliver a Staff RISE Up online webinar this afternoon for PGCE students at @BathSpaUni, focusing on teacher psychological wellbeing and how to build a sustainable and fulfilling career in education. 💛 Every student left with their own personalised self-care toolkit to help them return to homeostasis as often as possible, because we know that teaching is one of the most rewarding but also one of the most demanding professions there is. Colleagues were absolutely brilliant. Reflective, engaged and genuinely invested in their own wellbeing as well as that of their future pupils. Huge credit to Bath Spa University for being so proactive in equipping their students for long, successful and sustainable careers in education. But the number that tells the story most powerfully? 🏃‍♀️One Year 5 girl, for whom every morning transition was distressing, walking calmly across her classroom mid-lesson, collecting her token, and returning to her seat. This is the Ravenscote Junior School story. RISE — Reflect & Reimagine 🌅 Exams are not far away now. And it is worth pausing on a question that does not get asked enough in the weeks before they arrive. Not "are our students prepared?" But "do our students feel safe enough to try?" For some young people, the greatest barrier to performance is not knowledge. It is the fear of failure, the weight of expectation, and a nervous system that has never learned to feel regulated under pressure. 🤔 Reflect: Which students in your setting are already carrying anxiety about the weeks ahead, not because of ability, but because of what they are carrying more broadly? How does your school currently help young people regulate when the pressure builds? ✨ Reimagine: What would it look like to build regulation into your exam preparation, not as an add-on, but as something central to how you support your students?
