Ethnic minorities in China are learning Mandarin Chinese IN ADDITION TO their own languages. They are multilingual, and no one is restricting them from using their own languages. I visited an elementary school in Lhasa, this is their Tibetan language class. In fact, #Tibetan is written everywhere across the school, in textbooks, on blackboards, on buildings, and in students’ homework. In the school’s yard, they have a statue of the creator of the Tibetan language, Thonmi Sambhota, as well as a statue of Confucius. Just in this school, there are over 2300 kids aged 6 to 7 years old. Over 70% of them are of Tibetan ethnicity; the others are Hui, Han, and Monba ethnicities. And they are all required to take the Tibetan language class.

It's very incorrect and indeed hurtful to Taiwan to catagorize "Status Quo" as "de facto independence). The whole reason status quo is possible is because it is NOT independence. If Taiwan declared de-jure indepenence tomorrow, then we would get forced reunification tomorrow. In fact, in order to maintain the health of Status Quo, which is in fact what the people of Taiwan want, you need to emphasize that it is NOT independence, and also repair the detente with the mainland.

Actually there are a lot of lies told about Tiananmen. The student activists themselves say there were no students killed at the square. As for what happened off the square, seems to be a riot suppression rather than slaughter. Since then, there hasn’t been another Tienanmen so maybe foreigners should move on to other material?

Very interesting. The reason foreigners don’t believe PRC claims that the it won’t kill Chinese people is we saw it happen in 1989. CCP just calls them criminal or separatist or insurrectionist then PLA has license to murder them.
