@SmashTriviaJohn Funny story but I freaked out half way through as something Katherine Newton says (no spoilers) triggered Siri in my pocket (how!?!?). It searched her next line of dialogue and started reading out a response. Not loud enough to cause distraction thankfully. MORTIFIED!

@neilvagg Not only is there an audacity thing of doing that in a privileged situation but also even if they don't always stop it I would still be so worried about getting kicked out if I tried doing that.

Shoutout to the one brave soul at #ReadyOrNot2 press screening tonight who told off the guy who decided to just sit googling random crap during the big climax. Dude sat for almost 100mins and failed at the final hurdle. Full brightness held up for everyone to see.

@SmashTriviaJohn It’s wild. It happens almost as much as at public screenings. But there’s at least the added benefit of security in the room at press events. Though they don’t always stop it.

@neilvagg I can't imagine having the privilege of getting to go to a press screening for a movie and then getting on my phone in the middle of it.

@darren_scott I realised right as the lights went up that I was basically directly behind you (slightly right). No idea how you snuck in under my radar and hadn’t seen you.

@neilvagg Yes! I was just about to throw a bag of popcorn at them before the person stepped in - and then the person with the phone started arguing with the one telling them off! jfc… go home!

@JackRansom97 I hadn’t seen a single other phone the whole film either. People were so locked in. Pretty sure I saw the guy clap back at the person telling him off. If so then shame on him.

@neilvagg Genuinely baffles me why people do it. Particularly with this film, because the finale was great! That’s why I always try and sit as far away as I can from the busier sections as the special/media screenings 😂 as it still happens or people chatting throughout!

Had a blast with #ReadyOrNot2. It digs deeper into the lore and even deeper into the gore. SO. MUCH. BLOOD🩸. Weaving and Newton are a dynamic on screen duo. SMG slays her scenes. It’s just pure hit of horror-comedy adrenaline.

@BigDerrickBando We don't know that. The draft script had people aware of what a Slayer is. It just doesn't - in that draft - specifically reference there being thousands. So a reference could have been added later. Might have been a plot point for episode 2 onwards.

@neilvagg The finale of the OG Buffy revealed thousands of slayers. How are we back to one slayer??

@IAmTheOGLegion You saw the original Buffy right? The show that brought one of the first lesbian kisses to US network television.

@ClarkeKelsall Oh yeah plenty of potential problems. All of which are speculation at this point. So now we’re all here trying to tie production speculation back to a rough draft script.

That's fair enough, but you can't base a decision to green light a show on a speculation about a hint so subtle that it's only a potential one. And that aside, I would criticise the rebuilding of Sunnydale as a shoddy way to reintroduce the same old premise for nostalgia. Perhaps the people at Hulu thought similarly. And there is still the problem that if Buffy is not that involved, and if the new cast weren't up to snuff, it wouldn't have been a good show.

@ClarkeKelsall I think what a lot of people are missing is the potential subtle hint. The office job is for a multinational corporation (unnamed) in the draft script. A multinational corporation is also named as having rebuilt Sunnydale with shady intentions… Buffy may well be undercover.

Probably because part of the aim of a pilot is to convince people to pick up the show. At the end of the day, Gellar did a lot of heavy lifting on Buffy which was what made it a great show. If it seemed she was too orthogonal to the story, while that might be intentional, it might also be concerning, especially if no other old favourites are returning either. Also, Buffy rotting away in an office job--no way!

@BreezyActTwo Right!?! “We’re making a new Slayer show, here’s our nee cast.” Half an hour later. “Before we let you go there’s one more cast member to introduce… Sarah come on out!”

@nashienet They did. They approved it, budgeted it and gave it a green light. Seemingly - based on the information we have from articles - the issues were only raised after. But who knows. We weren’t in those rooms so we’ll never know what was really said.

@neilvagg No idea on that. But I am confused why they’d not read the script before commissioning it.

@nashienet I think that’s probably why there are rumours they were worried it skewed young. It skews no younger than the OG Buffy pilot from 97. But are the teens of today watching TV?

@neilvagg Not sure disney execs knew the primary audience though - young people or middle aged ones. Young people won’t be interested in watching an old scooby gang. And older fans won’t watch a teenage show

@VinnyBorden I don’t think it’s suspicious. If you watch the full clip she says it isn’t finished and it’s a proof of concept. She literally explains it wasn’t made for public viewing like the OG Buffy pilot without Alyson.

@neilvagg Lets say SMG is two faced. She is not exactly going to say anything publicly. It would be career ending. Not saying she did anything just spotting out the obvious SMG has came out asking fans not to read the script or watch the pilot if it leaks. This is kinda suspicious

Bull💩. SMG has *never* said anything publicly shady about Zhao. She has been nothing but enthusiastic and positive about her even in the interviews post cancellation. Even if there were creative issues they’re not playing out in mudslinging. Stop inventing controversy.
John Rocha@TheRochaSays

Ok. FUCK THIS. Sarah Michelle Gellar's people and maybe even HULU are trying to throw Chloe Zhao under the bus over Buffy. Nope. Not letting this happen to an INCREDIBLY TALENTED woman of color. I was gonna stay quiet with the other stuff I'd heard, but nah. Let's do this. Since my post 48 hours ago, I've had sources tell me that: - Gellar was the issue from the beginning - this was just an "IP grab" to stop that SLAYERS project from proceeding (which my sources had heard from a person involved with the original series) - Gellar wasn't terribly interested in rebooting the series (which was why her role was very limited, but was going to be more than one line) - Gellar had intentionally courted a creative who had a mixed history as a showrunner, but was a known“fan,” so that it would easily fall on her as the reason for the series’ failure. - that there was "a lot of love bombing from SMG to Chloe Zhao" before this latest excuse was put out there blaming Zhao and throwing her under the bus - Gellar constantly shouted down or cut off execs and production people who were trying to fix the issues with the show - One even said that what Gellar wanted to make changes to the Buffy character and the established canon of the series that would "piss off 90% of the fanbase" And now it just came out from @THR that Gellar doesn't want you reading the script that is being leaked. No surprise. It would show all the mistakes she approved of that were going to wreck the show and the canon. Btw these are sources I trust and who have given me correct info in the past. Some of y'all might have to put down your rose colored fan glasses and put on some clear ones.
