How to make sure young women are carried from interest to internships in big tech? How to keep them engaged during the middle school years. Projects, parents, mentors, narratives all play a part. #NEIT22

Access and visibility. What are the barriers to out of school programs? #NEIT22

We need intentionality in considering connection of programs. There are often huge gaps in opportunities along a timeline. Are all the programs in the summer? Are they only for a certain age? #NEIT22

We need to be creating documentation of all of the out of school opportunities available to kids. When we do this, inequity becomes incredibly clear. Measures - abundance, richness, and evenness. #NEIT22 #literacydevelopment

Important structures around the city that were important - home, school, community centers, playground. The use of reduced bus fare made this happen. When school was out, participation went down. This made the importance of infrastructure very clear. #NEIT22

Using community spaces (hubs) in this way draws kids from various geographical locations and they can collaborate in rich ways since they are self selecting to be there. #NEIT22

Reimagining of library spaces to "ensure students have a space and community of peers and mentors that motivate deeper exploration of interests." You Media -designing space for Hanging out, Messing Around, Geeking Out. #NEIT22

Students need places and spaces to showcase their work. Students cannot just be handing in assignments to teachers. #NEIT22

Technobiographies are great individualized visual tools to research digital practices and literacies. #NEIT22

The Digital Youth Network were able to use iremix to center all of the learning pathways really leveraging the self directed interest to increase literacies. digitalyouthnetwork.org/home/tools/ire… #NEIT22

When kids have the one to one model of tech, learning pathways can break down to school (media arts classes), home (self directed), after school programs (interest based). #NEIT22

A great reminder that learning time isn't *only* happening in school. Vast amounts of learning happen outside of school hours and outside of the school building. #NEIT22

Accountability, Acknowledgement, Awareness, Action. This is the cycle of the pathway toward growth. We need to examine the norms. Often. #NEIT22

Windows, sliding doors, and mirrors don't only apply to the books and material we use. The idea applies to the environment of the school as well. #NEIT22
