How my Degen habits accidentally saved me after a Seed Phrase compromise 😎 I’m a Crypto OG from 2020. NFT OG of 2021. Which basically means I’ve survived multiple financial near death experiences lol I had most of my portfolio in NFTs. No diversification. No strategy. Just vibes. Certified DEGEN. After nights of non stop trading, and by trading I mean emotional damage with charts, I decided to take a break. One night off… after months. Huge! Went out with the fam to another city for dessert. Of course I brought my laptop. 🧁 Because what if a life changing mint drops mid-cheesecake LOL You can't get caught lacking in this game 🤪 So I’m sitting in this nice candle lit coffee shop, sipping my Karak Chai, pretending I have balance in life Ping. “Your NFT has Sold!” I’m like, nice i'm a passive income Queen! 👑 Then again Ping ping ping ping ping. Now it’s getting weird. I opened my phone… WETH offers being accepted. On MULTIPLE NFTs. My heart didn’t drop. It disconnected from the blockchain entirely! We’re talking THOUSANDS worth of NFTs 🫠 I shot up out my chair so fast the table almost rug pulled my chai. At the same time I’m trying to transfer everything on my phone to my Ledger Hands shaking. Brain lagging. Fingers doing random side quests. Somehow I get onto my laptop. And there it is… my NFTs leaving my wallet. One. By. One. Plot twist… This scammer? Kinda mid 🤓 He’s slowly accepting WETH offers, while I’m countering his moves. As he accepts WETH, I drain it. As he looks at NFTs I move them lol He’s on Wallet 1 but my real bags are on Wallet 3. After the longest 10 minutes of my life I saved most of it. He got away with low 4 figures. which in degen terms is basically a “learning fee.” But it could’ve been WAY worse. And the only reason it wasn’t? Because my unhinged degen habit of carrying my laptop everywhere like it’s a life support machine. Now here’s the part that hurts. How did he get my seed phrase? From a DELETED sticky note on my phone. Turns out “delete” doesn’t mean delete. It means “we’ll just keep this here for your future downfall.” So yeah I learnt my lesson there, where my degan habit saved my entire port. ✊
