Your Defense Minister just said this: "We have flattened the entire first line of villages in southern Lebanon, all the houses have been destroyed. The residents will never see them standing ever again. The 200,000 Lebanese residents who were in the 'security zone' are never returning again. Not one of them will ever return to southern Lebanon" Your Minister of National Security said this: "For every tear of an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must weep. All of Lebanon must burn." And that's just today. You think this is normal?

This is controversial, but it needs to be said: many Israelis are reacting to the US-Iran MOU with an unbelievable degree of immaturity. Trump is being portrayed as a traitor, a flip-flopper, a man who abandoned Israel. Newspapers are putting headlines on the front page about how he is no longer a friend. Journalists who proudly posted photos of themselves interviewing him are now putting Xs over those pictures. But let’s look at what actually happened: Trump went to war expecting a certain outcome and when that outcome did not materialize he made a decision to cut his losses and do what he believes serves America’s interests: to end the war now, under terms that many of us wish were stronger and more favorable. By the way, it was always obvious that the war had a narrow window and was not going to carry on into the summer with the World Cup and the 250th coming on July 4. Everyone is allowed to disagree with the deal and think it’s flawed (I definitely do). You can also argue that it leaves dangerous questions unanswered about uranium, missiles, and Iran’s support for terrorism. But Trump’s decision was never about Israel’s interests alone. It was about America’s interests. These critics need to get over the shock of what Trump did. Their problem was thinking (why, God only knows) that every decision Trump makes is guided primarily by what is best for Israel. What happened is something else - these people fundamentally misunderstood how the relationship with the US works. Now they have learned.

This is embarrassing for Russia, and precisely why I keep saying: study it carefully. If a relatively low-cost approach can impose such challenges on a major military power, India should be analysing the concept, developing countermeasures, and examining whether a similar doctrine could contribute to deterrence against China. The lesson is not just about the platform used, but the modus operandi behind it.

I’ve read the MOU ten times now. The more I read it, the less it looks like a plan and the more it looks like a reflex, buy time first, figure out the strategy later. President trump wanted the Hormuz opened at almost any cost, and that’s what he did. Theres way too many moving parts for the MOU to go smoothly. This is a process, and it could run long. Buckle up. It’s going to get bumpy. (It won’t take long to see whether this was a clever play or a blunder of epic proportions.)

Until a final deal is reached, Iran will maintain the current status quo of its nuclear program, while the US will impose no new sanctions and deploy no additional forces 10. The US Treasury will issue waivers for Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, derivatives, and associated banking, insurance, and transportation services 11. The US will make frozen or restricted Iranian funds and assets fully available for use 12. The US and Iran will establish an executive mechanism to monitor implementation of the MOU and future compliance with the final deal 13. After signing the MOU and implementing key ceasefire, blockade, shipping, oil waiver, and asset-release provisions, the US and Iran will begin final deal negotiations 14. The final deal will be endorsed by a binding UN Security Council resolution The memorandum will trigger a 60-day window to negotiate a final deal.
