The senses AR can give us wouldn't be quite as attuned or effective as spiderman's, but there's no reason you couldn't catch a ball aimed at the back of your head without turning around with no notice that it was going to be thrown. And really just how cool is that?
In an emergency situation the AR glasses can even give you decent advise as to what to do, such as where the emergency exits are and where there is crowding that would prevent you from getting away quickly and even where you are in relation to the gunman or the police.
Another thing AR can do for us: give us spider sense. The cameras around us can detect faster than we can an obstacle heading toward us or at an angle we can't see and alert us. It could tell us if a spider or snake is venomous or a food looks spoiled.
But this is still the early stages and Apple's exorbitant price structure has in the past helped them popularize important unpopular tech. I am deeply hopeful that they succeed this time as well.
My only real problem with the vision pro is its price (well that and it's too damn big). $3500 is just too much to spend, and I think this technology is too important for people to be priced out of it.
Frequently when it comes to apple products, I've thought the hype was delusional and I didn't get and still don't get why they were successful over their competitors. It all seemed to boil down to some vague, socially constructed, "cool" factor that is mostly arbitrary.
