@cooldetat Jaws he was certainly young but the wunderkind status is really cause he was like 23 when he made Duel. At 26 he would've made Sugarland Express which is also incredibly impressive

@Srirachachau I think in Anyone But You she is trying to be a regular normal gal but she just doesn't have normal person type charisma, too broad for that or something

Also sorta surprised to learn that Sydney Sweeney is pretty good and funny. Not sure why that's not the case in like Anyone But You

I don’t think any director was as into György Ligeti as Kubrick was. Ligeti was furious over not having been told his music was used in 2001 (the license was got indirectly apparently), there was talk of a lawsuit, and Kubrick still used Ligeti’s music for two more movies
unregistered hyperkate 2@kathrwn

the point of being a film director is to expose people to your niche music taste. if you can't do this you need to give up filmmaking, you'll never have what it takes.

@VK_HM The Boba Fett show featuring an episode in which Ahsoka has a lengthy conversation with deepfake Luke is one of the most bizarre things to happen in Star Wars

I kind of can’t get over them resolving this whole thing in Boba Fett. If you just go from season two to three or Mandalorian he’s back with Grogu already. Him appearing in Boba Fett was fine but maybe backburner his own arc to his own show
Really not sure@jetinarround

They were obviously always going to be reunited but the lack of restraint they showed was insane. Have season 3 be just him and over the course of the season he realizes how much he misses Grogu. Then the movie can be their reunion. Insane fumble.

@VashKohime yeah totally it's kind of a confusing reputation when none of the issues with S6 have to do with unanswered questions

@nerdyMarius sure but "I don't like the answers we got" is different from "we didn't get them"

It was interesting sitting down and watching all of LOST expecting a bunch of unanswered questions like the cultural reputation suggests only to get a show that sits the audience down and explains the entire plot like, multiple times. We get a full on flashback origin episode!

friendly reminder that everything on the island was REAL. they didn't die in the crash. they lived and died at different times (some on the island, some years later). the "flash-sideways" church was an afterlife purgatory they built to find each other, let go and move on together

Getting in early on Mungiu discourse: I would have done the right thing in whatever scenario it is that the film dramatises. #mytwocents

@Srirachachau You could just say you didn't like a movie but the need to be proven correct is stronger (and more pathetic)

The critique that a modern work will not be remembered is pretty spurious to say in the present, impact's not really something you can predict without the time to reflect, good or ill, but it's also just a critique that oozes with resentment. What will you make that's remembered

Believe me I've talked myself into forgiving flaws of an ongoing show and that it would all work out if the finale is good. But in retrospect? Yeah the signs were always there

The Boys got shaky in S3 and S4 was bad. If there was a way back in S5 they missed it from the get go. And all the issues people had with Stranger Things 5? Guess what. Already present in 4. Game of Thrones? Steep decline since season 5

While there are plenty of shows that have had good, even great, finales (even shows basically defined by how good their finale is, arguably Blake’s 7’s best episode) TV’s finales are often disappointing because TV is not about finales. It is about running an idea into the ground

@nerdyMarius I have seen people come around on that, which I respect but I didn’t. Mostly though the season’s just visibly running low on ideas. What if DaiMon Bok comes back. Okay that one was Stewart’s idea
