New Study: In utero SSRI or SNRI exposure was associated with a 6-9 fold ⬆️⬆️odds of child autism. -SSRI or SNRI 1st & 2nd trimester: OR = 6.43 -SSRI or SNRI 3rd trimester: OR = 9.01 This risk should be noted on the drug labels. nature.com/articles/s4139…

A single mitochondrial DNA mutation in mice causes autism-like behavior—social deficits, anxiety, and EEG disruptions—with no changes to brain anatomy. Let’s break it down 🧵1/10

Turn Back Your Brain’s Bioenergetic Clock to Reduce Alzheimer’s Risk Scientists have identified a new indicator of Alzheimer’s risk called “bioenergetic age,” which measures how efficiently cells produce energy. Higher levels of molecules known as acylcarnitines, associated with metabolic aging, strongly predict cognitive decline and increased Alzheimer’s symptoms. Researchers found that people with lower bioenergetic age maintain better cognitive function over time, comparable to effects of certain Alzheimer’s medications. Lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise can effectively reduce acylcarnitine levels, lowering bioenergetic age and potentially delaying disease onset. The research suggests a practical blood test could identify at-risk individuals early, allowing targeted lifestyle interventions. Ultimately, understanding bioenergetic age could lead to personalized strategies to preserve cognitive health and prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

BPA Exposure in Pregnancy Linked to Autism Risk Recent research indicates that higher levels of the plastic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in pregnant women may be linked to an increased risk of autism in their male offspring. BPA can disrupt fetal brain development by suppressing the aromatase enzyme, which is vital for regulating neurohormones. Boys whose mothers had elevated BPA levels during pregnancy were more likely to show autism symptoms by age two and be diagnosed with autism by age eleven. The study sheds light on the potential biological mechanisms behind this association, emphasizing the importance of reassessing exposure to plastic chemicals during pregnancy. 1/3
