Roe. Miranda. Gun control. Church and State. All dismantled in a single week. The single worst week for civil rights and liberties in decades.

@jesshamlet For what level? I have this problem every year. Fun home teaches really well. Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera last semester and my students loved it. I’m trying Felix Ever After this semester. Isherwood’s Single Man is lovely and raises a lot of good issues.

I need some new podcasts. My interests include emotional literacy, feminism, intersectionality, crows, food, music, curiosity, midcentury poet gossip, 00s antihero TV, reconsidering the 90s, & shit that won’t give me nightmares. Offer me your recommendations? Will I regret this?

@cedarshims Theater jobs are frequently like this as well. Very limited options for historians and/or theorists without teaching acting or directing. Many of us end up in English depts.

@paigec_psu @Momademia We’re talking about it with our 4yo and preschool. Even with masks required and tests to go back we think we might need a week or so for safety.

I can’t put into words how terrifying it is to have a child under five during this pandemic

@SarahMDowling1 In my most effective small grad classes, we were required to come to class with notes in our text and a paper with something written to to turn in. One teacher had us write 3 takeaways from the text, another had us turn in 2 critical questions about the text for discussion

Idk why I’m worrying about this right now, but— Can you share your teaching tips for a grad class (or, frankly, any class) with only four students? We are starting online for a month, and the readings are really hard, so I feel like it’s really not going to go well.

I keep hearing parents of kids under 12 day: “I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that they/we are going to get it.” These are parents who are vaccinated and very careful. There is a deep sense of hopelessness out here in parent-land.

@SandraVPorto @AcademicChatter The best piece of advice I got was to sign up for a physical activity or class once a week and don’t skip it for work.

I have the opportunity to teach an 18th C theatre course! What were your favourite plays to teach? What about after pieces? I want to mix up the length and I also want to teach everything...

@Sarahrmoon It’s so, so bad. 2 academic parents to a 4yo. Both lucky and miserable to be teaching remotely. I was so excited for out little one to start pre-k next month, but now I’m not sure. So much anxiety.

It’s hard to overstate the need for impeachment and removal of Trump, but the thorough investigation at every level clarifying who knew what and when and who did what and when—and then holds every one of them accountable for the insurrection—is vital. No matter how long it takes.
