A lot to chew over in @RachelReevesMP speech. Some very big announcements, some huge fights ahead, but at least a sense of much-needed optimism and policy breadth to meet the scale of the challenge, and though there will be massive focus on Heathrow there was a lot in there for the cities and regions. The biggest disappointment was the lack of detail on resetting trade relations with Europe. Essential for growth.

This is a topic that worries me a lot, so I'm really glad the Guardian has dug deeply into it. It's often exploitation of those who are desperate - many of whom are let down by our health system. I'm also quite disturbed by the use of the word 'supplement' for what is in effect herbal medicine. Vitamin and mineral supplements do work if your body is actually short of the specific nutrient. Some plant remedies work. Lavender, peppermint oil and St John's Wort for example have evidence behind them. But the human body is complex with lots of similar chain reactions. Anything that has a good effect can have a bad effect and we need to be careful. Anyway, do take a read! theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
