After 10 years, there was proper desilting of minor canal at Bohri. We created a market association there and threatened to fill the canal with debris and close it 😏. Members of association monitored the work during midnight to ensure proper desilting.

My greatest comfort as a child was trotting behind my Dadi to our village Mandir, just a few steps away from our village home. The camaraderie of the women who would gather in the Mandir after finishing their daily chores to sit together and sing bhajans was reassuring. On a sunny sweltering August afternoon, I walked into this Mandir some kilometres away from Jammu city. The thick Mandir walls not only provided immediate relief from the heat and humidity outside, but the stunning murals on the wall were jaw dropping. The Dogra women, both young and old sitting together singing in devotion took me back to happy days of being in the Mandir with Dadi. Dotting the lush Jammu landscape, are its Mandirs.. cleanest and quietest..where one can sit meditatively for hours. Though immediate expert help is required to restore and preserve these murals, despite the terrorism and apathy these Mandirs not just stand but thrive because of a people, who have in equal measures absolute faith and courage to fight back and stay in the land of their ancestors. #AmazingJammu

Sharing the unique Navratri celebration of Jammu Region - 𝐊𝐚𝐚𝐧/𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐡𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐤𝐡𝐢𝐲𝐚𝐧 : is a concept unique to the Navratri celebrations in the Jammu Region. During Navratras young girls get together and make a clay idol of Durga Mata, decorating it and taking care of it. Every morning after taking a bath , they carry water from the river and use it to worship the Mata, doing Dhoop, tikka and also water the Saankh (barley seeds) grown during these days. Amongst the girls one becomes Pachailan or Priestess incharge of the worship of Mata. On the last day the girls bring flour and sugar from their homes and Babru nd Puris are made. One amongst them becomes Kaan /Kanha and others become Sakhiyan /friends of Kanha. The Pachailan distributes Naivedya to all those who come to pay obeisance to Durga Ma. The celebrations come to an end with the Pravaah of the Mata ki Moorti and the Saankh. This is a beautiful way to celebrate a festival strengthening not only bonds between people but also spreading divine thoughts collectively. #Jammu #Navratri2024

Could be an unpopular opinion but the shrinking space for Open Merit in JK will only aggravate existing issues for so many youth. Punjab’s culture of spending lakhs of rupees usually by selling land to go abroad, via shady agents and student visas to join unheard of colleges is spreading in Jammu.
