He isn't. Malhotra's playmaking is on a level that far surpasses Kotkaniemi's. Watching film back has opened my eyes to what really helped Malhotra's production and impact in the 2nd half of the season, and that was finding a more consistent pace In the first half of the season, he would kind of drift around and only accelerate if a puck was around him, and a lot of times it would result in him recognizing an opportunity late and missing out on it. In the second half, Malhotra kept a more consistent pace everywhere on the ice, and it lets him be more impactful at both ends of the ice. "Middle 6 center" doesn't do him justice. He's going to be a very good 2C at the minimum, IMO.
