Money talks. In 2023/24 the total player costs (wages plus amortisation) in the Premier League showed the clubs with the bigliest 8 player costs occupied positions 1-8 and those with the 3 lowest player costs were relegated.

Here, as requested by @themagic_tophat are the inflation adjusted wage totals for Premier League clubs in terms of average per season and average per week whilst the clubs were in the Premier League. I have also worked out the totals on a season by season basis. Fearing my wife would divorce me, I managed to persuade @nickdemarco_ to have a quick word with her, and following that not did she agree to me wasting time on a Saturday with a spreadsheet ,she's now suggested I go to Australia to watch the whole of the Ashes series, followed by the World Cup next year AND has increased my Marmite allowance.

@MattDavies_FF If only a select few clubs can earn even more coin that they are able to use and invest in the same competitions as others who cannot, then the gap just increases even wider to become pointless. It was already bad enough with the Billionaire investors over the past 3 decades.

Top level is pretty easy to hate sometimes. Not that the Club World Cup is really top level football.
