The remaining upgrades are mainly to do with developer gas fees, and will make transacting cheaper in times of high traffic. Shanghai is a relatively small yet potentially impactful upgrade, but other upgrades coming later this year include EVM improvements & sharding. 4/4

So why are so many people excited about Arb and other L2 solutions? If crypto is to gain wider adoption and usage, Eth's L1 will never be able to support such high volumes with reasonable fees. L2s that process the bulk of txs but settle on L1 help fix this. 5/5

Arb also achieves efficiency through rollups, which allow them to bypass the baseline ETH policy of processing every transaction on every node. Transactions are assumed valid unless disputed, & validators have an incentive to dispute fraud to claim the penalties as a bounty 4/5
