Today, I was proud to announce how our government is taking action to improve early cancer detection and help patients preserve fertility and build a family after treatment. By lowering the age for breast cancer screening to 40, more women will be able to detect cancer earlier—when treatment is more effective and outcomes are better. At the same time, supporting fertility preservation helps ensure that treatment does not take away a future beyond diagnosis, including the choice to build a family. I look forward to working on this initiative with Cancer Care Alberta and Fertility Alberta. Thank you to Dr. Shiela Apavoo, Michelle Chidley, and Katie Smith-Parent for sharing their expertise and lived experience, and for helping advance these important conversations for Albertans.

@shoffmanAB just to drive the point home…despite your attempts to spin the government is NOT reducing funding for prevention and screening. Period. We are in fact increasing what is available to Albertans, including lowering the age for self referral for mammography to 40

calgarysun.com/opinion/letter… Alberta is taking action to align its healthcare system with models used in many other countries that have better health outcomes, where patients can choose how they access certain non‑emergency services. As the authors highlight: "Any argument that the Smith government’s plan will somehow create a unique system… or lead to the ‘Americanization’ of health care is simply not based in fact. These reforms will actually move Alberta towards the international norm.” The goal is simple: we need to meet Albertans where they are and expand options to help improve access to timely care.

@DrHarmseAb @CPSA_CA Actually no you are incorrect. It is 22 % gen overall increase in physician services budget from budget 2025-2026. Budget deals with overall amounts not specific settlements as they often happen outside the process.

@ngrayucp @CPSA_CA But it’s not 22% is it? It’s 3%. But you have locked docs into a NDA so they can’t tell the public the truth.

Budget 2026 includes a record $7.7 billion investment in doctors an increase of 22% from last budget. Alberta also has a record number of doctors registered with @CPSA_CA over 13,700. Our investment helps to ensure Albertans can have timely access to primary care #ableg

As Alberta enters a busy respiratory virus season, we encourage everyone to follow preventative health best practices: stay up to date on immunizations, stay home when sick, and choose the right care option for your needs. Not every flu case requires a trip to the emergency department. Care options include community pharmacies, primary care providers, urgent care centres and virtual care services which help keep emergency services available for those who need them most. If you have questions about your eligibility or where to go for care, please contact a trusted primary care provider, call 811, or visit 811 Health Link online, which is available 24-7. We thank all health care professionals for their tireless work caring for Albertans. Simple steps can help us stay healthy and protect our loved ones this holiday season.

Influenza is on the rise in Alberta. Stay home if you’re sick, wash your hands, and please consider getting your free flu vaccine. It helps reduce severe illness and hospitalization.

Women and girls have the right to play competitive sports in a safe and fair environment against other biological females. This view is held by a vast majority of Albertans and Canadians. It is also common sense and common decency. Skate Canada‘s refusal to hold events in Alberta because we choose to protect women and girls in sport is disgraceful. We expect they will apologize and adjust their policies once they realize they are not only compromising the fairness and safety of their athletes, but are also offside with the international community, including the International Olympic Committee, which is moving in the same direction as Alberta.

NEW: polling shows that the majority of Canadians, and a resounding majority of Albertans are supportive of the recent agreement to:   ✔️build a pipeline to Asian markets ✔️end the production cap ✔️cancel the net-zero power regs in Alberta   Albertans can clearly see how this agreement will improve investor certainty and unleash our energy industry, creating tens of thousands of jobs for Albertans and all Canadians.

Today, Alberta is making history. With the tabling of Bill 11, our government is taking a bold step in a new era of health care toward fixing what has frustrated Albertans for decades: long wait times and barriers to timely care. If passed, Bill 11 will introduce a dual practice model that allows some physicians to work in both public hospitals and private clinics. This proven approach will mean more surgeries, faster care, and shorter waits for everyone—while keeping our Public Health Care Guarantee strong. No Albertan will ever have to pay out-of-pocket for family doctor visits or medically necessary treatments. Safeguards will ensure the public system remains strong, including requirements for physicians to maintain a dedicated amount of surgeries in the public system and restrictions if shortages occur. Government can impose limits on private practice if access to public care is at risk, ensuring fairness and protecting hospital capacity. At this time, family medicine will not be eligible to be flexible participants within this new model. Surgeries for life-threatening conditions such as cancer and emergency procedures will remain fully publicly funded with no private option available. With these proposed changes, November 24th will be remembered as a day of innovation in Alberta. Bill 11 is the health care of tomorrow, and it starts today!

Big news for all Albertans. Alberta’s government is modernizing physician participation rules to give doctors flexibility to work in both the public health care system, and private settings. This Dual Practice Model will increase the number of surgeries being done in Alberta, decrease wait times, and ensure that Albertans get the care they need in a timely manner. We stand by our Public Health Care Guarantee. No Albertan will need to pay out-of-pocket to see their family doctor or receive a medically necessary treatment.

Today, rather than reaching out to our office for clarity, the NDP released leaked documents of policy recommendations that were actually rejected by Cabinet. This was clearly an attempt to fearmonger and scare seniors, and they should apologize for the irresponsible decision. The draft document being shared by the Opposition included early recommendations from the Department of Primary and Preventative Health Services to Cabinet. Ultimately, all final recommendations related to new deductibles or income testing were rejected by Cabinet on July 15, 2025, and will not be proceeding. There is no “secret plan.” We have already announced and are implementing changes to the Seniors Drug Plan. See the news release link: alberta.ca/release.cfm?xI…. No other changes to client contributions are being implemented. Alberta’s government intends to proceed with legislative amendments that will make government the payor of last resort for drug coverage and ensure Albertans can keep their employer-sponsored coverage when they turn 65 if they are actively employed and choose to do so. Currently, when an Albertan turns 65, they are automatically enrolled in government coverage even if they have employer-sponsored plans. We will also be changing the name to Alberta Pharmacare to better communicate the government-sponsored programs offered. This will not impact the amount that seniors are paying out of pocket, and if they do not have any employer-sponsored coverage, the government plan will continue to provide coverage. In many cases, employer-sponsored plans provide better benefits, and employees choosing to work after age 65 would prefer to maintain their employer-sponsored plan. This change also supports the long-term sustainability of the program, ensuring that private and employer plans will pay a more equitable share of drug coverage costs and that Albertans’ tax dollars will be used more efficiently. No other changes are proceeding at this time.

I congratulate Prime Minister @MarkJCarney on his minority government election victory last night.   I also want to sincerely thank @PierrePoilievre for his powerful and principled advocacy against the last decade’s punitive taxation and anti-resource policies that have made our country weaker, more divided and overly-dependent on the United States.   Mr. Poilievre’s vision for a safer, more affordable, united and prosperous Canada drove the policy debate in this country for the last several years and has inspired millions to see the unique potential of our nation. While Liberals and New Democrats demeaned and demonized Albertans, our values and our industries for political gain, Mr. Poilievre made empowering Albertans and our energy sector a cornerstone of his campaign. His respect and admiration for Albertans could not have been clearer. He is and continues to be a true friend of Alberta.   As Premier, I invite the Prime Minister to immediately commence working with our government to reset the relationship between Ottawa and Alberta with meaningful action rather than hollow rhetoric. A large majority of Albertans are deeply frustrated that the same government that overtly attacked our provincial economy almost unabated for the past 10 years has been returned to government.   As Premier, I will not permit the status quo to continue. Albertans are proud Canadians that want this nation to be strong, prosperous, and united, but we will no longer tolerate having our industries threatened and our resources landlocked by Ottawa.   In the weeks and months ahead, Albertans will have an opportunity to discuss our province’s future, assess various options for strengthening and protecting our province against future hostile acts from Ottawa, and to ultimately choose a path forward.   As Premier, I will facilitate and lead this discussion and process with the sincere hope of securing a prosperous future for our province within a united Canada that respects our province’s constitutional rights, facilitates rather than blocks the development and export of our abundant resources, and treats us as a valued and respected partner within confederation.   Our government will be holding a special caucus meeting this Friday to discuss this matter further. I will have more to say after that meeting is concluded.
