🚨Dev Updates – October
Ahead of next week’s Smarturn EVM upgrade, here’s a deep dive into the Cronos protocol team’s progress this month 👇
Cronos EVM
This month’s work delivered major improvements in performance for EVM, with a special highlight on optimizing the Cosmos staking module alone, reducing endblock execution time by up to 10x, drastically speeding up network sync! 🚀
Shipped ✅
–(EVM) Pre-install support: Developers can now access pre-defined contracts such as CREATE2, Multicall3 and Permit2 without manual deployment.
–(EVM) EIP-2935: Cronos clients can store & serve the last 8,191 block hashes in a system contract, enabling more efficient, stateless execution.
–(DB) RocksDB v10.4: Improved storage performance with enabling async I/O & multi-get support.
–Cosmos Staking Module 🚀: Significant improvements in code & caching reduce storage overhead at endblock, achieving up to 10x faster execution on archive nodes, drastically reducing sync time.
Cronos POS
Cronos-store goes open-source for reusable core storage, with performance improvements at the database layer.
Shipped ✅
–Cronos-store: Core storage logic has been modularized into a separate repository, embracing open-source principles and enabling reuse across projects.
–(DB) RocksDB v10.4: Storage & performance gains as EVM.
Cronos zkEVM – Security & v29 rollout 🔒
Last month we focused on security improvements, releasing v29.2 to patch an operator wallet vulnerability and v29.3 to fix the EC pairing precompile bug
–(Contracts) v29 deployed on private testnet — rigorous testing underway. Mainnet rollout expected next week
Stay tuned—new updates and improvements are coming next month!
