ENG below El 20 de febrero, R-SEAT y USCRI organizaron la mesa de diálogo: Participación y Protección de las Personas Refugiadas en México, en el marco del 75º aniversario de la Convención sobre el Estatuto de los Refugiados de 1951. La mesa tuvo una participación de 35 personas, líderes refugiados, la Comisión Mexicana de Ayuda a Refugiados (COMAR), ACNUR y sociedad civil. En este espacio se comentó sobre la situación actual de México en relación con la protección y la participación de personas refugiadas. Asimismo, mediante el diálogo se fortalecieron las relaciones entre actores institucionales y representantes de personas refugiadas. Ante un contexto internacional desafiante, mediante este diálogo se reforzó que es necesario el trabajo institucional e interseccional de la mano con personas refugiadas y solicitantes de asilo en la construcción de prácticas sostenibles para la garantía de la protección intencional en México. Agradecemos a todas los líderes, organizaciones y representantes que nos acompañaron y seguiremos trabajando en conjunto para lograr que la participación significativa de personas refugiadas en México, se consolide. ______ On February 20, R-SEAT and USCRI organized the dialogue panel: Participation and Protection of Refugees in Mexico, within the framework of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. The panel included 35 participants, refugee leaders, representatives from the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR), UNHCR, and civil society. This forum addressed the current situation in Mexico regarding the protection and participation of refugees. Furthermore, the dialogue strengthened relationships between institutional actors and representatives of refugees. Given a challenging international context, this dialogue reinforced the need for institutional and intersectional work hand in hand with refugees and asylum seekers to build sustainable practices for guaranteeing intentional protection in Mexico. We thank all the leaders, organizations, and representatives who joined us, and we will continue working together to ensure that the meaningful participation of refugees in Mexico is consolidated. #RefugeeLeadership #RLO #MeaningfulParticipation #RefugeeParticipation

Today marks the anniversary of my family’s resettlement to New Zealand after nearly a decade as refugees in Pakistan — a moment that fundamentally changed the trajectory of our lives. Resettlement is more than a humanitarian gesture. It is an investment in human potential. Millions of refugees still live in limbo for years, even decades, without rights, stability, or a real chance to rebuild. Refugees do not want to be trapped in cycles of dependency. What we want — and what we need — is a genuine chance to rebuild our lives. When refugees are given access to education and employment, they do not only rebuild their own futures. They contribute meaningfully to the societies that generously host them — economically, socially, and culturally. This is not charity; it is shared progress. On this anniversary, I am deeply grateful to UNHCR for providing protection, and to New Zealand for offering us a new beginning. At the same time, I am mindful of the many who are still waiting, still in limbo, and still without a durable solution in sight. Global responsibility must go beyond emergency response. It must include expanding pathways, strengthening resettlement, and investing in long-term solutions that enable refugees to rebuild with dignity, agency, and hope. This is not only the right thing to do; it is a win-win for all. @Refugees
