As a storyteller, I couldn’t tell the story of Black Bottom and the Detroit Housewives League without honoring what came before it Greenwood in Tulsa. This isn’t just history. It’s truth. It’s legacy. If we’re going to pass this on to future generations, it has to be real, raw, and honest. Because our ancestors built greatness with far less and still changed the world. I’ve wanted to share the story of The Detroit Housewives League for a long time. On March 23, Part 1 of our 4-part documentary premieres. As someone who took my fight for creative rights all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, I’ve seen firsthand how fragile creative ownership can be in systems that weren’t built for creators. For decades artists created the culture that moves the world but we didn’t always own the system that monetized it. The opportunity in front of us is bigger than technology. It’s the chance to finally build a creative economy where artists don’t just create they own. Ownership of our IP. Ownership of our likeness. Ownership of the platforms and partnerships that distribute our work. That’s part of the vision behind what we’re building with Divine 9 TV a future where culture isn’t just performed by the community, but owned by the community. This is not about replacing talented & gifted creatives , it’s about giving us the tools to share our stories & art without culturally incompetent gatekeepers . Some will be traditional. Some will be AI-generated. But every single one will be rooted in truth, culture, and community. I’m grateful for the technology that allows these stories many of which have been overlooked for generations to finally be seen, heard, and owned by the people they belong to. One of my SXSW co-panelists talked about the importance of getting back to community and real conversations at the table and that moment stayed with me. As a creative pivoting into the technology space, I can honestly say I never imagined being invited into rooms with real Unicorns and Titans of Technology… not just to watch, but to share the stage and sit at the table. From the VIP dinner last night to the panel today, I was blown away by the generosity, brilliance, and openness in this room.
