For those of you still here, a reminder that I migrated elsewhere. Elon Musk began using this platform to pay advertising money to neo-Nazis and sex criminals, which was a red line for me. Find me over at Bluesky or other places for updates. linktr.ee/nick_martin

Lots of people are finally leaving X this week and you should too. (Yes, you.) I'm primarily on Bluesky now, and you can find me there talking about hate and extremism in the US as well as what I'm keeping an eye on post-election. Here's how to find me: linktr.ee/nick_martin

@DaveBngDave Governments especially at that level are generally very slow to adapt. They'll move eventually. There are already a couple US senators and one federal agency actively on Bluesky, and I bet we'll see more in the coming weeks and months.

@nickmartin I just wish the local government, state, and county agencies used it.

If you followed me here when I was active on Twitter, I hope you'll join Bluesky and connect with me there instead. It's free and there's no more waiting list to sign up. I no longer post my work or ideas on X, so Bluesky is the best place to find me. linktr.ee/nick_martin

Bluesky isn't owned by billionaires. Twitter founder Jack Dorsey was briefly involved and provided some funding, but he left and thankfully is no longer involved at all. Bluesky has since made lots of improvements and great users are joining all the time. linktr.ee/nick_martin

Hi, this is a periodic reminder that I am no longer actively posting on Twitter and have moved elsewhere. Elon Musk is using our engagement here to directly fund neo-Nazis and sex traffickers. I'm not OK with that. Here are much better places to find me: linktr.ee/nick_martin

@StairMasterNem Too many things to cover here, but it's a web3 platform built to be decentralized. So the company has put comparatively way less into trust and safety than even Twitter does now. There's almost no moderation at the moment and will be even less once it moves out of beta.

@nickmartin How interesting. As a layman BlueSky looked promising for having a copied UI and setup. I assume it’s just worse in the backend unseen bits? Scaling to number of users and such

I'm going to be on Twitter (or X or whatever the hell this place is about to be called) far less moving forward. If you've connected with me here over the years, please find me at one or two of the other places where I'll be posting more frequently. linktr.ee/nick_martin

@StairMasterNem My hot take is that the fediverse has the most potential right now, but that's very dependent on whether Threads joins up. (2/2)

@StairMasterNem Bluesky is worse than Twitter in so many ways already, and when it moves out of beta it's possible it will get infinitely worse. Mastodon is doing well right now with a surge in daily users and better engagement rates than any other platform at the moment. (1/2)

@StairMasterNem I agree. Threads has the potential of a huge user base, which is probably the most appealing thing about it. But it needs to add a lot more functionality and follow through with its integration into ActivityPub. Doing those things could make it the Twitter killer.

@nickmartin I hate them both but at this point I hope Mark Zuck is making Thread basic features a priority.

@HermanWasser There's plenty to be done, including work exposing Twitter and its paid fascists, on platforms that don't do that.

@HermanWasser Unfortunately Musk has set up a system where fascists are getting directly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by the company. The money is said to be coming from ad revenue. So remaining here and continuing to engage means helping fund those people. (1/2)
