@nickmfaris @theScore I always enjoyed your work, Nick. You set the gold standard at theScore and I can almost guarantee you that you won't be a free agent for long. I can't wait to see what the future holds for you.

I'm a free agent because of the job cuts at @theScore. I leave with immense pride in our team's reporting and analysis. I told stories about every major sport, and I’m grateful for the support of great colleagues and trust of interview sources. DMs are open to discuss what’s next

That was a long thread. Thanks for bearing with me. A big thank you to everyone for reading the last few years. An enormous thank you to @rorybarrs, @grspur and @vaswani_ for bringing me on, and creating what was an awesome features team and environment at theScore. It was a blast to work with @jojolat, @Brandon_N_Wile, @nickmfaris, @joey_doubleyou, @JosephCasciaro, @MatiszJohn, @_DanWilkins and many others. We did tremendous work as a team .... It’s a tough day. Many of us lost our jobs. Writing about sports is great. I’m lucky to have been able to do it, and hopefully will continue to do so again. The media landscape is challenging as we all know. I was, and remain, clear eyed about that, the risks, the dark clouds, etc. But I hope there remains an appetite for thoughtful, in-depth reporting. I don’t know what the future holds but at the very least I’ll continue to be here. Thanks again for reading.

across my 7 years as a feature writer at thescore, i wrote close to 600 feature-length nba articles. my favourites were the ones that looked at macro stylistic trends & the way the league was evolving. i think some of them turned out to be fairly prescient. threading a few below:

I was unfortunately let go as part of the layoffs at theScore this week. I'm deeply grateful for my 3.5 years at the company but am now looking for my next opportunity. Hit me up if you're looking to fill a role that involves writing, editing, content planning, content management, etc.

Some personal news: I am a free agent. I am among those being laid off by theScore/Penn Gaming. I look forward to whatever is next in journalism, or baseball, or elsewhere. My direct messages and email are open.

I'm exceptionally proud of the work I did for @theScore over the last decade as one of the newsroom's most senior writers and editors. Unfortunately, I was part of Thursday's mass layoff that upended one of Canada's best sports brands. Over my time as an editor with supervisor-level credentials, I covered three Euros, two World Cups, the four tennis Grand Slams, Formula 1, the Tour de France, and parts of the Summer and Winter Olympics. I helped create the pilot for a live blog that generated hundreds of thousands of views from just a handful of test runs and wrote original features on Napoli's historic 2023 Scudetto and Qatar ahead of the 2022 World Cup, as well as tributes to the late Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, and Muhammad Ali. I want to thank @GianlucaNesci for hiring me in 2015 and letting me live out a young sportswriter's dream and allowing me to grow and pitch ideas. Thanks to my friends and colleagues @GordBrunt and @DanielJRouse for the daily banter and incredible team spirit; @rorybarrs, @vaswani_, and his team of supervisors for pushing my work to an international audience and holding me in such high esteem; and the copy editors who elevated my work.

Fell just short of that 10-year gift card (??), as my tenure with theScore ended today. Been a huge fan of the company, in its various forms, for 25 years, and always will be. Grateful to have lived out a childhood dream. DMs as open as Inter's net in the UCL final.

But seriously, for the few who see this, thescore was the best job I ever had. I doubt I'll ever have as much fun "working". Much more, on top of working my dream job for 10+ years, I'll be forever grateful for the chance to work with the outrageously talented soccer crew. Gonna miss you guys.

I was laid off yesterday by @theScore like so many others. It was incredibly disappointing, but my time there was an amazing opportunity to get my foot in the sports journalism door and write baseball for a living. I’m grateful they took a chance on me and am excited for what comes next!
