I have joined 409 GPs to sign a joint letter calling on @wesstreeting to deliver on his promises to change Gen Practice in England for the better. The more GPs in England who sign up to the campaign the more likely he’ll listen so please join me and go to rcgp.eaction.org.uk/Joint-Letter-2…

@RaymentCaroline I was running on the moor and went over on my ankle. I’ve fractured my 5th MT but hopefully doesn’t need anything else doing!

@ashleydcohen @MikeHewitson1 Really feel for community pharmacy colleagues re:this. The shortages are causing inconvenience to patients and we are losing staff time to this too ++. We now have a large practice whiteboard where our prescriptions team try to keep track of what’s not available!

I love being a pharmacist, but the UK’s drug shortage makes me want to give up – and Brexit makes it worse | Mike Hewitson | The Guardian - an excellent, honest and very raw appraisal by the distinguished ⁦@MikeHewitson1⁩ ⁦ theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@RoyLilley @Azeem_Majeed If hospitals had access to EPS, it would be a game-changer. Pts could have their prescriptions sent directly to a community pharmacy and it would reduce potential delays for pts. @NHSEngland

I was asked to give an example of a positive IT NHS innovation. I picked the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS); which saves time for doctors, admin staff and patients; reduces prescription errors; improves security; and which is also better for the environment.

General Practice in 2023 with a way forward. Also it’s great to see it written down that PCNs have failed. Don’t come at me with “my team are lovely”. If they are so great carry on employing them. I bet you won’t though. I say what lots are thinking but aren’t able to say.

🩺 Why is it so difficult to see a GP now? ❓ 1: We’ve lost the equivalent of 2,212 full time (60+ hrs a wk) GPs since 2015. 📉 🧑‍⚕️ Assume each GP has a list of 1800 pts (often an underestimate) that’s a whisker below 4 million patients without access to a GP. ⚠️🥼 1/14

So much smearing & belittling of consultants in the press, but this, from today’s @thetimes letters page, could not have put it more beautifully. Pls RT if you agree. #NHS 💙

@HPIAndyCowper Meeting increasing demand is a big challenge for practices. I’m a partner in a practice with 18,000 pts. On Monday 20/3 we received 1000 phone calls from patients (approx 5% of our population). This doesn’t include our eConsults & already pre-booked appts.

“Surgeries will be told that they must upgrade their telephone lines to cloud-based systems which allow patients to queue, or request a call back at less busy times.” < This is bound to work. Genius. thetimes.co.uk/article/nhs-gp…

@wesstreeting @NAOorguk Retention is the key. Far too many doctors & nurses are leaving the profession too early. It’s not always about the money either. Staff need to feel valued and have manageable workloads. At the minute, it doesn’t feel like we are being listened to. 😞

I’ve written to the @NAOorguk to request it launches an investigation into NHS use of recruitment agencies. The NHS spent £3 billion on agency staff last year, including paying £5,200 for a doctor shift. It’s the cost of failing to train enough staff. thetimes.co.uk/article/b8c04b…
