@adambader Giving them the benefit of doubt, and a few days, but if they don't come through, I'll be asking for a refund for this years membership (I'm sure they won't give it), and moving along. I was on the fence about renewing anyway, and I know I'm not alone in thinking that...

Whoop, a company that always claimed that subscribers would receive new features without hardware updates, and that if new hardware was released, subscribers would receive it for free, has today released two new devices and is asking existing subscribers to pay for them.
This is a clear example of them lying, and it is disappointing because I love the product and the company.

@nickris I don't see another reason for reluctance mentioned in Gergely's post?

Notice: “the KYC flow” is casually mentioned as the #1 reason not to onboard into new products. Even when *all the cool kids* use those products
Few realize how truly impactful Reusable ID/portable KYC is going to be

A group of friends pushed me to get Revolut in order to split the bill for a group event. Every one of them had it: I was the only one who didn't. So I reluctantly went through the KYC flow just to pay them. WOW. I now get what the buzz is about. It is SUCH a great product...

Does anyone know how to get someone to actually help you at @Aeromexico ? I’ve been hung up on and had a ridiculous conversation with the chat bot today…

@rileyphughes On his return he can now just pull out his badge and pill bottle and can sail through TSA. Sorted!! 🤣

The past few weeks, I've posted about my experiences using the Utah Mobile Driver's License (mDL). Since then, a few people have reached out and shared some insane experiences. Here’s the craziest one I’ve heard:
A friend of mine called out of the blue. He was at the airport and imminently needed to board a flight, but he’d forgotten his wallet at home! He needed to decide whether to go home and grab his wallet, or depend on the Utah mDL that I encouraged him to download the week before.
I told him I was 85% sure he would be OK. He regrettably listened to me and decided to rely on the mobile driver’s license. Here’s the full story:
1️⃣ His nerves were soothed as he saw signs plastered all over security prompting him to download the mDL app. But when he reached the agent, he learned the mDL was only accepted in the PreCheck line. He didn’t have PreCheck.
2️⃣ TSA said they could use “alternative methods” to verify his identity for boarding his flight, including 2 forms of ID from different sources.
3️⃣ He only had 1 form of ID on him: an employee badge. Since his wallet was at home, that’s all he had.
4️⃣ He suggested the mDL could be the second form of ID! After all, it’s a government-issued ID card! And it’s heavily advertised as being accepted by TSA?!
Nope. They rejected his plea. Would not accept the mDL as second form of ID. He was out of luck—until…
5️⃣ He pulled out an old prescription bottle. The prescription label had his name printed in worn off ink. Eureka!! The 2nd factor of ID he needed! The TSA *accepted the prescription bottle* (again--not the mDL!) and sent him on his merry way to his flight.
Woah… we have a long way to go. Imagine the layers of anachronistic artifacts of bureaucratic incompetence that must exist to accept a worn-off prescription label as more trustworthy than a highly-advertised, government-issued, cryptographically-secure mobile driver’s license.
And, unbeknownst to the TSA agent working with my friend, he is employed with the same healthcare company that issued the prescription. So technically, the employee ID and prescription are from the same source, which means they would fail the "2 sources of ID" policy anyway! 😂
This story demonstrates that while technology and product matter a lot, reusable ID companies cannot discount the importance of business & legal matters. In this case, misleading advertising.
It also demonstrates a counterintuitive point: successfully-adopted reusable IDs generally start with one use case. The fact that Utah's mDL is only accepted in the PreCheck line is a fine place to start. The fact it doesn't cover all the edge cases is fine, to start. It just means there's more room to expand after deployment #1 is a success.
Would love to hear from you if you've used mDLs or reusable ID products in the wild, and how your experience was.

Seeing what Bhutan has been able to do with #SSI makes you realize that all too many are waiting on perfect, which never happens. They have created a rich ecosystem where amazing things are possible.
And they didn't wait for someone to have the perfect answer. They created their own...

Today during our first #OpenTechDay I was named Chief AI Officer of @orange. I think this recognition is largely just a reflection of the great work done by our incredible team of engineers and researchers across our 26 countries.
We are making strong progress towards our mission of using AI to ‘superpower’ all of our employees, our networks, and our customer experiences. Come visit our big event this week in Paris and see for yourself!
I’m grateful to the company for this wonderful opportunity and especially to my boss @bruno_zerbib as well as my previous bosses @mno_jl and @MichaelTrabbia who have given me such great support and guidance. Here’s to many more #AIsuperpowers for our employees and customers!

@RedaHachem We're also working against that in many instances incumbent solutions already exist - point in case, KYC... It's fundamentally a solved problem, but could it markedly improved - yes...
English

@RedaHachem Thx Reda! The short answer is - yes, decentralized identity solutions will materially impact online privacy/security AND improve user experience. There are a lot of reasons why adoption has been slow, but a key aspect is the shear number of dependencies and variables involved
