@FrancescaBerry9 David was such an incredibly kind, thoughtful person, generous to younger scholars and always curious about their work. Rigorous in his own writing, which cut right through mythologies, peeling them back to reveal what had been there all along. Sadness and wonder.

I am sad and sorry to say that my friend, the outstanding Cubism scholar, Professor David Cottington has died. His work - low on Cubism heroics, carefully argued - will always be read by me and my students. I will remember him also as generous, gentle and funny, impish even.

@alexjzucker Is that the view from behind the clock at the d’Orsee, Alex, and would that help with “when”?

@alexjzucker Another possibility, in a more technical register, would be to call it crenelated.

Beyond the headlines of each new election cycle, our incredible, richly layered city of Bethlehem is all this: hope, loss, and the resilience of a community that always gets back on its feet. My colleague Shimon Attie’s photo essay from his project Starstruck @LehighU

We're hiring! Art, Architecture and Design @LehighU has four tenure-track openings: architecture, graphic design, industrial design, sculpture. Yes, you really do want to be here! At a university custom-built for makers, designers, and creative thinkers. And the views!

An incredible job by @estorick and my colleague Maria Elena Versari, who curated the Archipenko show—and for this wall label at the entrance.

A few days of archives and libraries, a presentation with colleagues tonight, and a stop in for Archipenko and the Italian Avant Garde ⁦@Estorick⁩—a lovely small exhibition on one of the best known of Ukrainian modernists.

14 children and a teacher, hardly a week after Buffalo. Two mass shootings. How we've accepted this much suffering as normative in this country, for so long, is beyond me. A violence we have every opportunity to prevent, and we choose not to. If not now, when?

And Matisse’s charcoal portrait of Sergei Shchukin from 1912, the Russian collector and patron who turned down the Red Studio, for rather prosaic reasons—and was later dispossessed of most of his collection during the revolution.

In between meetings in New York, a stop in for Matisse’s Red Studio at MoMA. The kind of show where you could spend hours. Instead of paintings, I give you the design of the studio, which he contracted from a maker of prefabricated outbuildings and sheds.
