Io Saturnalia! I cooked some Ancient Roman recipes for us and two friends so that we could celebrate Saturnalia with a mini feast. Lots of wonderfully strange and alien flavour combinations packed with the ever-present asafoetida and fish sauce. We had: 🧵

Self-ID and social transition add up to a very dangerous ideology that can have terrible effects on young LGB children, who are being put on a medical pathway to irreversible physical changes. We are not going to run away from this issue. We will sort it.

Shane MacGowan was for the weak, the ugly, the radically impure, the spat-on and shat-on—an instinct exemplified on the Pogues’ “The Old Main Drag,” writes James Parker: theatlantic.com/culture/archiv…

It’s finally happened. I’m reading a book and I feel like there’s too much sex in it. 🤣 No, I’m not saying the title. But I’m just sitting here like “Okay, we get it. I’d like to get back to the plot now.” Who even am I?!

...guys, no. You don't 'flip bad reviews' by replying to them, you do it by FIXING THE PROBLEMS. Being responsive means YOU FIXED THE PROBLEM, not that you hit 'reply' on a review. what is cryptic about this?
Xalavier Nelson Jr.@WritNelson

For those who aren’t familiar, this is becoming industry standard. Because of how important of a role Steam ratings play, and the proven ability to sometimes flip negative reviews based off of simply interacting with a user, it’s spreading. This is just a very big game doing it.

I miss her terribly already. We hadn't seen each other in years and didn't talk for months at a time but when we did it was like we'd seen each other last week. She always made me feel heard and valued. RIP Kathy. I'll remember you with every cup of tea.

My friend wasn't very online and wasn't on this app. It was mutuals on FB who were kind enough to DM me to let me know. I was reminded, again, how deeply embedded social media is in our lives and how I rely on it to know how my friends and family thousands of miles away are.

CW: death A very dear friend of mine who I've known since I was 10 passed away last week. Breast cancer spread. And this morning I've got to go in for my regular checkup, and it's gonna be a bitch not crying in front of everyone.

The sound of connecting to dial-up internet just emanated from a distant corner of the coworking space. All the millennials popped their heads up from their computers like a flock of prairie dogs being activated by a long-forgotten ancestral call.

@plantbard if you're going to be publishing any papers, It Is Time to work on that 'slightly rumpled in a lab coat' standby for the journal site 👍 (they're my favorite part, I love seeing everyone's selfies 😊)

@TravisBaldree makes me think of an anecdote from a gamer friend: they were talking about how much they liked the story in a game - I think it was The Witcher - and had the person they were talking to respond with "Oh you mean the filler?" Takes all sorts, I guess.

@ac_cobble having handled an old book where all the pages had not been cut, that'd be my first impression, and I like it :) Still, if most folks don't have that for reference and don't like it, maybe nah.

Sprayed edges, gilded edges, and designed edges are all the rage, but how do people feel about deckled (rough cut, uneven) page edges for a deluxe fantasy edition? Screams 'ancient tome' to me.

why is it that we insist the workplace be without whimsy? The holidays always point that out a little more with all the parties and decorations
