@Fat_Electrician It's all based on fundamental misunderstanding of what a college degree represents. When college was difficult to get into and graduate people saw college degrees as a signal of brainpower. It never was, it was a signal of discipline. By making it universal that signal is gone.

@NickJFreitas So far I don't think there is much of a sacrifice, it's been fairly easy. It would actually make our lives harder to have our kids in public school. Half the activities they do wouldn't be possible with a "normal" schedule.

When you pay taxes for universal healthcare, you're not "paying for lazy people's healthcare." You're paying for your own healthcare instead of premiums, copays, and deductibles.
Why can't people grasp this? Look at it as something that benefits you and your family, not just other people. You'd actually save more money under a tax-funded healthcare system than you do with the current for-profit system.

I went from a blue-collar job where I was moving all day to a job where I sat inside all day.
The result? I gained 30–40 lbs and developed more aches and pains from sitting than I ever did from manual labor.
I’m not saying sitting at a desk is harder. It’s not.
I’m saying we underestimate how harmful a completely sedentary lifestyle is. Your body can handle hard work, it struggles with doing nothing.

@Fat_Electrician I wouldn't say it is intentional. The average voter in no way understands why homes have gotten expensive. So, there is no real way for politicians to capitalize.

Correct. It’s not about the $5 coffee. It’s about the fact that the government keeps adding more regulations and zoning requirements, which increases the cost of building new homes.
They do this because the largest voting demographic (baby boomers), who already own homes, benefit when home values continue rising year after year.
We have real-life examples. Austin, Texas, eased permitting and some restrictions, built a significant amount of new housing, and has seen lower rents and housing costs as a result.
The government is intentionally creating this problem by limiting supply, thus artificially inflating costs to pander to the largest voting demographic.
