I’m not a Catholic, but wouldn’t it be great if we could get #Ilovethepope trending as he’s plainly a good, decent, principled human being, and, on Musk’s platform, this will annoy a lot of powerful, evil people. Do please repost.

You say the Tories tried to keep Kruger in a cupboard. Was that a food cupboard with his mother

Mandy was very much around when Kinnock was Labour leader. He regularly abused/charmed journalists in the 1980s.

@thequentinletts Iconic is an important word. Those who can still say the word have not drunk enough whisky. Despite significant daily consumption I have never failed to pronounce this word

Prime minister, making his initial speech in a Commons statement, refers to 'Brits' and talks of whisky as an 'iconic' product. Who writes this stuff for him?

Yet by 2006 Hamas had gained huge support. I did not return to Gaza after the 1990s so cannot explain how they gained this support so rapidly. You may be better placed to provide an answer.

#Israel 20 years ago I was in the #WestBank reporting the 2006 #Palestinian election campaign. I detected huge support for #Hamas. A US diplomat complained to @BBCNews #Jerusalem bureau chief: "Who is this guy Sykes & why is he talking baloney? He should have got out more.

Hugh I did reply but it seemed to be blocked. So I am having another go in case it did not reach you. I reported from Gaza and the West Bank in the 1990s just after Arafat returned. I did not notice much support for Hamas - indeed one could get a decent bottle of red in Gaza.

@jerryhayes1 I have spent a lot of time in the Middle East and Africa. This was a good reminder to be careful before making cultural assumptions

@jerryhayes1 In principle yes automatically. But years ago in Khartoum I was opening doors etc for my female guide from the Central Bank when she asked me to stop doing this and always walk in front of her. She was university educated and had a senior post at the Central Bank.

@OborneTweets When I was at The Telegraph, the defence correspondents were former generals, admirals and air marshals. If it is OK for generals to have senior journalist posts why, in principle, shouldn't journalists have senior armed forces posts?

Wake up Giles! The post of Naval Assistant to the First Sea Lord dates back to 1905. Every previous occupant has been a senior naval officer. Now the role is suddenly handed to a political journalist. It's entirely reasonable to point this out and ask what's going on.
Giles Dilnot@reporterboy

Ungenerous, mean spirited and snide towards someone (no idea if Peter knows him) who regardless of whatever he’s done before….is a thoroughly decent human being 🙄
