Thrilled to hear that @CliveMyrieBBC @Alleycatstv won a BAFTA for their Caribbean Adventure. Huge congratulations to all, so richly deserved. (BTW Clive, I met Paul Brennan recently, former conductor of BYO, who sends his best.)

@boltontory Dear Mr Mayor As your mayoral year draws to a close, I want to say a huge thank you to you for your impeccable service as Bolton's first citizen, but especially that you have made it so accessible through your daily diary on here. It's been very much appreciated. Best wishes

Tonight’s service, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day was a truly moving and unforgettable occasion. Over 600 people gathered in the heart of our town at the Parish Church to honour the ultimate sacrifice made by so many in the name of freedom and peace. It was a powerful reminder of the strength of our community and the deep respect we continue to show for those who came before us. The celebration was made even more special by the incredible performances from the Parish Church Music Team, the Hoover Band and the stirring presence of the lone piper. The service concluded with a spectacular moment as the beacon was lit from the top of Bolton Parish Church, joining hundreds others who also lit beacons across the nation in a symbol of unified remembrance. My heartfelt thanks go to the Parish Church Team and the Mayor’s Office for their work in bringing this event together. It made me incredibly proud as Mayor, but also as a resident of this remarkable town, to have played just a small part in such a significant event. Thank you to all our veterans and cadets that paraded and everyone else that paid their respects. #TeamBolton #togetherstronger Mayor of Bolton Hannah Lane Music at Bolton Parish Church Bolton Parish Church

Amazing to meet Paul Brennan, conductor of Bolton Youth Orchestra 1971-1979, for the first time in 45 years. He was an inspiration for me (and many others) as a young player. We remembered the rehearsals and concerts in Bolton and in Paderborn. Fab! @SimonTalbot76 @CliveMyrieBBC

Classic PR tactic employed by autocrats in their early days of power. Joseph Goebbels espoused pretty much the same sentiments in the 1930s. The world hasn't yet woken up to this emerging terror. It's not going to end well, for them, or for us.

"Should the Defense Secretary.." Marjorie Taylor Greene: "Wait what country are you from?" "From the UK" "OK we don't give a crap about your opinion and your reporting. Why don't you go back to your country. We have a major migrant problem. You should care about your own borders"

@Paul_McCreesh As Manuel in Fawlty Towers often said "I know nothing". And even less since I fully retired. But I'm optimistic that the rhetoric espoused by Starmer et al in the run up to the election will bear fruit. It will take longer than many of us hope, but it will come.

@Paul_McCreesh We may have to wait even longer, but I sense something positive is coming. I'm an optimist.

@nigelmtaylor Couldn't agree more...but I guess we read one of these 'new' reports every year, at least. And in the meantime abs nothing happens...

@tasminlittle No downsides whatsoever. I roast it, poach it, stir fry it, and use it in all sorts of dishes and accompaniments. Love it!
