Already mindful about preparing for applying for core training next year… Out of interest (because it’s never too early to start🥲), friends who’ve sat the MSRA, what resources did you use/what would you recommend for preparing?

Great news. More doctors applying for roles starting in August will now be able to remain in the UK, rather than moving to Australia. It makes no sense for us to invest in doctors only for them to have to leave the country else face unemployment.

✅ The Medical Training (Prioritisation) Bill has received Royal Assent. 🇬🇧 An essential step towards ending the fierce competition that's stifled UK medical talent. Supporting a sustainable NHS workforce that meets the health needs of patients. More: england.nhs.uk/long-read/medi…

@valhumphreys51 @DrHWazir The bill was fast-tracked through. Needed royal assent today to apply to 2026 intake. Nothing to suggest Wes won’t enact it asap.

@toadmeister How are they able to take a medical degree? When you apply for a medical degree, it specifically states that you cannot apply if you have any sort of disability.

Junior doctors are claiming to have ADHD and dyslexia to get out of night shifts, NHS leaders have claimed, with one in eight doctors under 35 now classed as disabled, a majority of whom cite mental illness. dailysceptic.org/2026/03/02/doc…

@cmwilliams99 @AnasSarwar Obviously. Doctors are expensive and carry social and political soft-power. If you can oversaturated the market, you can drive down the cost. Cheaper things are less valuable. Drs start squabbling amongst themselves and other NHS staff, and don't trouble the gov.

There are currently 1500 medical students starting each year in Scotland, yet only 1100 foundation posts. How would that work @AnasSarwar - there literally aren't enough jobs for all grads from Scotland to stay in Scotland?
Callum Williams@cmwilliams99

So whilst there are unemployed doctors who want a job but cannot get one, @AnasSarwar @ScottishLabour think the solution is forcing doctors to stay in Scotland. Ridiculous policy showing Labour should be no where near government. ireland-live.ie/news/scotland/…

Yesterday I was seen by 3 healthcare professionals. None of them introduced themselves or their role to me. I had to squint to look at their name badge Is this normal now in the NHS?

@dave_dlt E-notes usually means e-prescribing. The problems are 1. Poor EPR's 2. Being misused by staff to fit how they actually work 3. Poor quality IT infrastructure 4. Low quantity IT infrastructure 5. Stupid networking: STOP STORING USER PROFILES ON INDIVIDUAL MACHINES

@dave_dlt Disagree. Computer notes > paper all day long thanks 1. I can easily read what's written 2. I quite like being able to copy paste (as long as it's accurate) it means the most recent note is probably going to have a summary, rather than having to piece it together

Question for my hospital colleagues. To my observation this week, computers have made ward work much worse. I’m fairly confident people aren’t reading notes before a review, or referral, and this is due to the friction of having to find a terminal. Is this true?

Is involvement in audit/QIP crucial for getting into anaesthetics? Bc I have been TRYING to get involved in one but can't find one anywhere. #MedTwitter I'm hoping to attend a conference, do taster days, I'm on an anaesthetic rotation now + have teaching experience + PGCert

@rojaha58 Could be heterogenous study groups. Maybe doctors have less aptitude and need more input effort and more careful assessment?

Interesting perspective! Royal Colleges & medical schools have to explain to Drs why they must train so hard, be so rigorously examined & put up with terrible pay, conditions & debt, when non-medics get to the same place with so very little effort. One way or other must be wrong.
Tim Ricketts@timricketts_

@gushamilton Ultimately, you have to be suspicious of these studies because the question is “can less training equal similar outcomes” So if it leads to better outcomes, the rationale for that is “medical training makes clinicians worse at delivering medical care” which seems ridiculous

I completely agree with @JaneEBall And admire the passion shown by her to ensure Gen Next of Nurses are not undermined by silly policy As a doctor, I have exactly the same view and passion towards Gen Next of doctors None of our views are elitist - but about ensuring the public has good safe care. The voices will continue to grow louder as care continues to slip.

@DrEilidhMaria Internal market isn't it. Madness. Take money from pot A to pot B. Pay separate people to manage Pot A and Pot B. Make it Dr C's job to coordinate this transfer, and make it difficult to do to reduce chance of it needing to happen.
