The reality is that Pinarayi Vijayan is probably the only CPI(M) leader in the opposition camp with the stature and authority to effectively take up the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, considering the challenges faced by the party.
The other option is P.A. Mohamed Riyas. However, the CPI(M) may be reluctant to elevate him in order to avoid allegations of a father-in-law favouring his son-in-law.
K. N. Balagopal is also a potential contender, but he does not appear to possess the political punch required for an aggressive Leader of the Opposition role.
Another problem the CPI(M) faces is that most of its second-in-command leadership LOST the Kerala Assembly elections, and promoting someone unexpectedly could unintentionally signal the party’s future Chief Ministerial choice, something the leadership may prefer to avoid at this stage.👇🏻

@DearthOfSid I am a Congress supporter who does not wish CPIM to be destroyed because BJP will occupy that space. With that being said, if the party is continuing with Pinarayi, it is further proof that there is still, no one to question the party from the inside

I wonder why Jayalalitha never groomed a successor. It’s not as though she was in the greatest health
Here health records from her last days shows she was struggling with so many health issues. Reading convos with her doctors, maybe she felt she’ll be around much longer

Congress’ #Kerala dilemma dates from PM Indira Gandhi’s time. She tolerated groupism in states to control leaders. While she had power her writ ran. KC Venugopal has RG’s ear & used access to give tickets. But local leaders campaigned & won. That complicates CM-selection.
