Orb City doesn't trust the light. The ink washes on Lady Midnight started as a practical decision - black and white needs to compete with colour somehow. They became something else. Every page is trying to make you feel the damp and the dark before you've read a word.

She used to be a witch. Whatever she is now, she walks into rooms where things have gone wrong and stays until she understands why. Lady Midnight. Coming to crowdfunding.

The pencils are the argument. The inks are the commitment. Lady Midnight is intended to be black and white — so I added ink washes to build the values by hand. More work. Worth it. When a book has to earn space on a shelf next to colour, you make choices.

The best villains aren't evil because they want to be. They're evil because they were right about something, and it broke them. That's the line between a monster and a hero. Cross it and you have something readers don't forget.

50+ pages of CROM: The Destroyer pencilled. 3 pages and a cover of Lady Midnight inked and grey washed. Two projects. Both ongoing. Neither rushed. This is what the pencils look like before it's done.
