* Protocols for the Long Now, investigating the technological forces reshaping civilizational resilience. longnow.org/ideas/introduc… Long Now Labs: Where Long-term Thinking Becomes Long-term Practice "An open call to participate in our inaugural lab, Protocols for the Long Now, investigating the technological forces reshaping civilizational resilience. Long Now Labs will build cross-disciplinary collaborations around frontier ideas, creating tools, artifacts, and frameworks that expand humanity's capacity to navigate the unknown and preserve possibilities for future generations. Our inaugural Lab Series 001: Protocols for the Long Now, launches today in partnership with the Protocol Institute. • Lab 001.1 – Book of Time: invites you to submit a concept for a new way of marking, experiencing, or making sense of time. • Lab 001.2 – Epistemic Cycles: seeks an individual or team to investigate historical epistemic cycles — patterns of technological disruption that result in the breakdown of a society's shared ability to discern truth. • Lab 001.3 – Interspecies Protocols: explores the protocols needed to support interspecies ecologies — the interactions between humans, nature, and synthetic intelligences. (Coming 02027, likely a course, no open call!)

The Digital Omnibus dominated the @PrivSymposium in Venice last week, and rightly so. The proposed shift to a more contextual definition of personal data is one of the most consequential framing questions on the table. Our Senior Policy Lead @VyaraSavova has a few notes from the floor:

@Rainmaker1973 How is this implemented? It probably means you would need to register and link all your biometric information to your identity, to "protect" yourself for it being used by anyone or any tech company.

In a world where artificial intelligence can replicate a person’s voice or face in seconds, Denmark is stepping forward with a groundbreaking proposal: a copyright law that grants every citizen ownership of their own likeness. If passed, this law would mean no one — not even AI companies — could legally use your face, voice, or body data without consent. The move comes amid growing global concerns about deepfakes, where digital replicas of real people are used in scams, misinformation, and even political manipulation.

As every year, I’m honored to support the evolution of NFC Summit. 2023: Speaking Program 2024: NFC Kid Zone with @Lelapinmignon 2025: VIP Lounge with @100collectors 2026: Art Curation of what is becoming the largest digital cultural festival in Europe. This year, we are building a format where we can rethink what it means to exhibit art made with AI, blockchain, and digital tools. Not an art fair. Not a crypto conference. Not a festival. Something new. Expect new exhibition formats, site-specific installations, conversations with artists, and a few surprises.
NFC SUMMIT - JUNE 4-6 2026 - LISBON@NFCsummit

[1/8] NFC Summit 2026 is not adding an exhibition to the conference. The conference is being built around the art. Here's what we're building at Unicorn Factory Lisboa. 🧵 Co-organized with @arabbankCH, curated in collaboration with @flakoubay and @100collectors

History has taught us that if you sacrifice your freedom for security, you will end up without both. Do not follow China's steps!! 🇨🇳In China, we don't have rights and privacy. Once you are blacklisted by Social Credit System, the digital wallet WeChat immediately bans you from spending your own digital currency, or receiving salary. So you become homeless.

* In the modern mesh networking space, much of the innovation is happening in the LoRa radio space jonaharagon.com/posts/im-getti… Jonah Aragon: "LoRa radios use license-free, sub-gigahertz radio bands that are available for public use in nearly all countries around the world. Compared to the license-free 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz radio you'd recognize from Wi-Fi (but is also used by many other technologies), LoRa operates at much lower power and, importantly and simultaneously, at much longer range. Mesh networking over the airwaves presents a very unique opportunity for our societies. We could build a resilient, peer-to-peer network that coexists with the internet, enabling connectivity in currently underserved regions and increasing our personal sovereignty online by maintaining a functional backup to the internet for our most critical needs. It's also just a freeing feeling to be able to send a message to someone else relying only on devices that you and people in your network own outright, instead of renting the capability to do so from your local ISP or Elon Musk's Starlink.'
