Several rebel factions (Touareg, Al-Quaida, FLA) have launched attacks against Mail junta forces across the country. In Kidal the Mali junta forces along with Russian Wagner mercenary troops were surrounded. There are claims that Russians were allowed to leave the besieged city.
Russia has been supporting the local regime forces for years, but with very limited results.
