It's heartbreaking to witness the deteriorating state of North Street and Donegall Street in Belfast. Protecting our built heritage is vitally important, and these new aerial pictures highlight the importance of doing so before it is too late...

@gaz3434 @MarkRobinsonNI @_The_Dali_Llama That’s a relief to hear! Fingers crossed its delivered reasonably soon then as having to cross the road twice here just to stay on the route will be a total pain.

@niplanner @MarkRobinsonNI @_The_Dali_Llama Fortunately, that is DfI’s plan; moving the protected cycle track from the western side to the eastern side of Durham St, so that crossing at the corner of College Square North is no longer required.

Some new aerial photos showing the latest progress at Weavers Cross. Works are currently focused on Saltwater Square, as well as new cycle infra, kerb realignments, and high quality paving along the Hope St and Glengall St corridors. Full completion is expected later this year.

@gaz3434 @MarkRobinsonNI @_The_Dali_Llama Also concerned about how this connects at the top of Durham St. As highlighted in green, the most logical route would be keeping the cycle lane on the RBAI side straight and around into College Sq North. Forcing another crossing just breaks the flow and adds more conflict points.

@_The_Dali_Llama There are dedicated cycle lanes being constructed along Durham St and onto Hope St (see images attached). However they appear to merge into shared use pedestrian pavements, which I'm not a huge fan of. Segregation is always better.

@GeeGriff72 Unfortunately the exchange is staying put as its a live hub for the city's telecoms and demolition was never an option. There has been talk about potential external treatments/cladding to improve the look of it, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Fanum House has been dominating the Great Victoria Street skyline since the mid-1960s. After becoming disused during the 2000s and laying derelict since, the 12 storey tower has now been reduced to a pile of rubble to make way for the exciting new development 'the Grattan'.

We are so excited to announce that following an 8-week restoration programme, the Mayoral lamp posts in front of Ulster Hall are now back to their former glory and shining bright indeed. They were officially inaugurated my the Lord Mayor @Tracybelfast1 on Wed 5th Nov.

@NIFLGrounds And not forgetting that, to get the required capacity at Windsor (and do an expansion properly), around 20+ properties along Olympia Dr. would likely need to be acquired. That process and the negotiations involved would have taken years in itself.

People in the comments still asking why the IFA didn't elect Windsor to host Euro2028. For the slow learners at the back: Windsor didn't have planning permission. It would take 2 years just to get an approved application. Nevermind what to do with the Olympia Leisure Centre.
Gerard Lawlor@Gerardlawlor75

I can’t help but shake the sheer irony of hypocrisy to the Euro draw announcement. The same people who fell flat & failed when it actually mattered, missing a major economic opportunity and a once in a lifetime football legacy, are suddenly celebrating because they get to host a draw ceremony for an hour. Only here do we turn failure into fanfare this fast with a total lack of accountability. Unreal.

Great to see progress on the public realm around the Belfast Grand Central Station. The new Grosvenor Rd / Durham St junction layout is in place while new paving on Saltwater Square and Durham St is starting to emerge. The 'new' Durham St itself due to open late November.

We are so excited to reveal the newly refurbished cast-iron pillar on Linenhall St - which turns out to be an Edwardian-era tram section pillar related to Belfast's old electrified tram network. It highlights a lovely and underappreciated part of the District's history.

Have you ever noticed this peculiar cast iron pillar on the corner of Linenhall St and Ormeau Ave..? Keep you eyes peeled to it next week as we will restore the pillar. The restoration might also reveal some clues as to what it is... Hint: it relates to public transport 🤔🤔🤔
