A pay recommendation of 3.3% is utterly disgraceful and is a pay cut when inflation is marginally above this and the economic outlook is so unpredictable. Forecasts of 2% inflation is totally aspirational and currently unrealistic. The Minister non-committal as per more £££'s!

3. Should the health of the individual improve to a point they can work again, they can rejoin the HSC. Others lift their pension and retire. It is a multifaceted issue and often a difficult process for individuals to work through.

2. For those who are unsuccessful, it is usually deemed there is no prospect of them returning to work in the near future so the Trust terminates their contract on health grounds. This would usually be after a long period of absence.

5. We fully support the messaging that abuse of HSC staff is wrong. But an examination of what are the causes of this issue, rather than referring to the impossible objective of having a zero tolerance policy, is needed across the hospitals and, in particular, social care systems

4. As a result there is an over reliance on Bank/Agency staff, and while many Bank/Agency workers are fantastic, it's a reliance that adds to the problem over the longer term as they may be unfamiliar with clients and internal processes and team cohesion.

1. This @BBCNewsNI article really highlights the growing problems faced by HSC staff. Our view is the figure is actually much higher as many incidents, particularly in social care, are not officially recorded. It remains a growing problem. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
