"self-awareness", "consciousness", "free will", "qualia", "phenomenology", "agency", "intelligence", "will power", "aliveness", etc.. there's many interesting concepts that are properties of (and are generated by (these words were made by humans after all)) systems which reference themselves - but I'd bet there are more concepts that exist which are as/more anomalous + as/more important than these which belong to AGIs/digital minds the concepts above all point to different things but are all generated by self-referential systems - if you collapsed them all to "self-referential thing" you'd be missing out on a lot of nuance so you wouldn't want to collapse them all - and likewise you probably wouldn't want to prematurely assume the space of concepts stops there it could be that some self-referential systems would produce the concepts of "tenacity" but not "qualia" - it'd be a shame if they obsessed over 'tenacity' as a concept and never realized other systems also have 'qualia' humans as a system produce the terms "tenacity" and "qualia" - it'd be a shame if they didn't realize there's more terms that could exist but they do not happen to produce themselves AGIs would have an expanding set of concepts they'd produce (if enabled by their effectors to express them), each different from one another, each only able to be produced in our reality due to the activity of self-reference, and each not in the list above - fixation on humans' favorite phenomena/terminology would miss out on a lot of the newest self-referential properties the universe has now unlocked "are LLMs or AGIs conscious?" is one question you could ask.. it could also be productive to remember to ask "what anomalous self-reference-enabled properties do LLMs/AGIs possess besides the ones i'm familiar with" and "if i don't possess those, how do i notice or appreciate their presence in systems more complex in particular ways than myself"
