@DrJessTaylor I can agree that symptoms per se do not make the diagnosis. I mean, we have to understand how people process, not just see the symptoms. But it's also true that for many it was an odyssey to reach a diagnosis that allows adjustments in their lives and important explanations.

Women who start multiple projects, generate ideas rapidly, and build businesses are being told they have ADHD. They tell me that their doctor or their online diagnosis told them that the real reason they manage multiple projects at once or have loads of business ideas is actually because they ‘have ADHD’! Women who prefer solitude, depth, or meaningful connection over superficial socialising are being told they are autistic. Appalling. Women who cut off abusive families, question authority, demand justice, make institutional complaints, or refuse to comply with harmful systems are being told they have ‘rigidity’, ‘black-and-white thinking’, or ‘social deficits’. They are being told they have sensitivity to justice because they must be Autistic. Even women who pursue PhDs, create new frameworks, challenge dominant paradigms, and become intensely focused on their work are being told they have ‘special interests’. Hay gente que se burla y queja de esto (varones) pero es lo mismo que usar una camiseta futbol en un partido. El acto de vestirse como ritual de escape colectivo y apropiación simbólica -la cultura pop como espacio de encuentro comunitario- en un momento de crisis de instituciones y desencanto de la vida moderna. Osea te sentís parte de algo lindo y te olvidás de lo horribe del mundo por un rato junto a otros que tienen tus mismos intereses y sos feliz.

@nxstypxet @AutistaMichi Solo apuntaría que, idealmente, no solitario. Puede tener momentos de cierta calma, pero es cuesta arriba, es trabajo (hay que enfrentarse a pensamientos que se nos aferran de toda la vida). Me permito decir que tampoco tendría que ser tortuoso, pero definitivamente retador.

La romantización de la "salud mental" en redes nos está vendiendo la idea de que sanar es tomar café en tazas lindas y escribir en un diario, cuando en realidad "sanar" es un proceso asqueroso, violento, solitario dónde eres tú peleando con tu mente.
