@MattRKay This is a really great question… and what if there is a cultural difference that makes banter with students feel hard?

Some of us are able to get to it naturally. But how do we coach those who do not come to it naturally?

How do you achieve authentic “banter” with students? (Without “doing too much.” Without “teasing” - that is often misinterpreted. Without trying to be the kids’ “friend.” etc.)

The happiest weekends are the ones spent in the company of people you love pursuing music, chores and togetherness …

Class ended with the same student saying “class was really fun today and I’m excited about this project” which is why we do the work we do here at SLA-MS.

This afternoon’s class began with me taking attendance and pausing for a breath before I could say the thing I always say and a 5th grader chiming in “don’t forget to say ‘thank you for coming to math today.’” - which brought a chuckle from all of us.

We’ve been working hard to keep our afternoons as chill and purposeful as our mornings, and I am happy to report that today we nailed it! You can’t even tell which picture was taken in the morning and which was at 2:50! Way to go, Pathfinders! @SLAMiddle

For the 2nd time this week, our Harris Walz sign was stolen from our front yard… Rude.

A proud moment for the Ironside Advisory when we spent most of advisory discussing how carved turnip are cooler and scarier than carved pumpkins… Many examples were offered!

It was a rocky start to the day, but Fun Friday with Ironside Advisory is pretty restorative.., @SLAMiddle

Visit your colleagues - especially the ones outside your discipline.. You will always learn something from them and the kids you share…

Lots of green tomatoes… hopefully the sun and warmth of the dining room will help them turn red. Growing food with the person you love is pretty damn great.

I have a new advisory - which means I get to learn about all the families. This week, we are conferencing. It is a thrill to hear the hopes + dreams that families have for their kids. It’s an honor to carry + support these as we do the messy work of middle school learning!
