The NIRU AI Hackathon is a strong signal of where Kenya’s AI ecosystem is headed. From March 30th to April 1st, 60 MVPs will be presented. That’s 60 real, working solutions, not just ideas. It shows a clear shift from talking about innovation to actually building it. This kind of output reflects a growing, maturing tech space where collaboration, rapid prototyping, and execution are taking priority. Each MVP carries the potential to evolve into a startup, attract investment, or solve real challenges across key sectors. More importantly, it positions Kenya as a serious AI hub. We are not just adopting technology, we are creating it. See you in 7 Days! #NIRUAIHackathon #NIRUAI

The world is moving fast with Artificial Intelligence. Countries everywhere are using AI to protect their people, treat their sick, catch criminals, and grow their economies. But there's a real danger that Africa could get left behind. Think about it: Africa has 1.4 billion people and some of the fastest-growing economies on the planet. But right now, we're at risk of just being customers - buying AI solutions built by people who don't understand our world. Systems trained on data from other places, designed for problems we don't have. And this isn't some abstract problem. It's hitting us where it hurts. Cybercriminals are stealing about 10% of our entire Africa economy every single year. Our hospitals are struggling to keep up. Our farmers are fighting to grow enough food with tools that weren't made for our soil or our weather. Africa's problems need African solutions. We need smart systems built by people who know our languages, who understand our climate, who get how our communities actually work. The talent is here – no question about it. What we've been missing is the support, the push, and the spaces to let that talent shine. That's exactly what the NIRU AI Hackathon is all about. It's not just another tech event. It's a serious investment in Africa's ability to create its own AI. When we bring our developers, data scientists, and innovators together to solve real problems that matter to us, we're doing something bigger than just joining the global AI conversation. We're writing our own chapter in it. Countries that build their own AI get to decide their own future ; And Africa's time to build is right now. The NIRU AI hackathon was designed as a full innovation journey, not just a few days of coding. The process began in October 2025 with a national call for proposals that received over 2,400 submissions. From these, 185 teams were shortlisted and taken through workshops and mentorship sessions to help turn their ideas into working Minimum Viable Products (MVPs). Now, the journey reaches its final stage. From March 30 – April 1, 2026, the top 60 teams with Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), will present their innovations, that could shape the future of Artificial Intelligence in Africa and beyond , at the AI Hackathon Grand Finale. #NIRUAIHackathon #NIRUAI
