After spending almost a decade at startups, I’ve realized that org design is an underrated skill. A well thought out org structure is integral to revenue growth, hiring, and retention. Org design says more about your company strategy than a strategy doc ever can.

Is it just me or have other people noticed that it is much more common for people who go to psychedelic and meditation retreats to become even more narcissistic and ego driven than it is for them to become better (kinder) humans with processed baggage? Disclaimer: I have done both, many times. Pro-both. But seriously, this trend just seems out of control.

Today is my 3rd work anniversary at Propel! I continue to be in awe that I work w/ people who are so deeply passionate about serving low income Americans. What we're building is a compound business - and that's very challenging! All it took was one tweet to change my life. 🥂

In 2018, I got a pair of funky pants Now, I pretty much wear a pair of funky pants daily 3 things I have learned from wearing funky pants: • it is OK to stand-out • you never know how one decision can stay with you • one early believer in a new idea can make a big difference

Slack/Teams were pitched as saving us from email Instead, chat replaces your 1 asynchronous inbox with 1,000 just-in-time inboxes This was, undoubtedly, a terrible mistake

the solution to loneliness isn’t a product, it’s increasing your own surface area of social serendipity a few ways to do it: - choose to live in a city and neighborhood that has enough of the kinds of people you enjoy talking to - make leaving the house and walking around the neighborhood a daily routine, as strictly as if it’s exercise - get really into something that’s not a job (like obsessively into that thing), whether it’s art, sport, etc. - spend time in the same one or two intentionally-chosen community-gathering “third spaces” consistently - be the social organizer that hosts small group get togethers (or say yes to most things you get invited to) products can really only do two things: - make it easier for your to do the above things - make you feel better about not doing the above things

If I'm known to be anything, I would like to be known as an early supporter and believer. Everyone claps when you're finally crushing it, but I know the importance of having people cheer for you when you're trying.

Every now and again you run into people or concepts that "break your brain." That challenge you, make you think (and rethink), expand you, and get you really digging deep & chewing on topics for a few days after. Best feeling in the world.

It's been a year since I moved to NYC! I grew up in the suburbs in the South. I never thought I would live in a city like this. This year I've been focused on new beginnings and I'm proud of myself for leaning into doing new things that used to terrify my past self.

creating the ideas you want to bring to life requires you to be more intentional with your time, energy, and space. it requires you to say no, to be in solitude, to uphold your values and priorities.
