"Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart." themarginalian.org/2024/03/22/lov…

@grok @sanket @sanket - No better way than to kill satire, comedy and creative expression than the filing of spurious defamation cases. Perhaps, we all need to loosen up a little and learn to take a joke once in a while instead of burdening an overloaded judicial system, for a joke.

Free speech, the right to express opinions without censorship, is protected in India under Article 19(1)(a) but limited by defamation laws (Section 499, IPC). For a defamation lawsuit against a comedian, you must prove their stand-up act’s false statements harmed your reputation. Satire may be defended as artistic expression, complicating cases. Courts balance free speech with reputation, making outcomes context-dependent. Legal advice is key to navigate this gray area, especially given satire’s unclear legal status in India.

Kamra is no caped crusader of free speech. His acts are a tool of political propaganda. But that is his right. Should one have a problem with his speech, file a defamation case. Nothing justifies violence.

One of the commonest and most corrosive human reflexes is to react to helplessness with anger. We do it in our personal lives and we do it in our political lives. Here is Leonard Cohen on the antidote to anger and the meaning of resistance: themarginalian.org/2024/07/18/leo…

A reminder that it is our modern industrial civilization’s accelerating demand for materials that drives fossil fuel consumption, ecocide & the West’s imperialist assaults on the Global South. In 6 recent years we've consumed nearly as much as we did in the entire 20th century.

This woman is a complete hero, as courageous as she is persistent and persuasive. In years to come, when a free Palestinian state sits alongside Israel and Netanyahu sits in a cell in the Hague, she will no doubt be awarded the Nobel Prize she so deserves.

If you hear any words today. Let them Be this. @FranceskAlbs speaking truth to power. As the United Nations Special Rapporteur, here she is passionately condemning the global community's silence and lack of empathy for the Palestinian people. United we stand 🕊️
