One of the most memorable pieces of information from my trip to the Kölnbrein Dam was that after 100 years since its construction (in the '70s) the existing structure will simply be abandoned to create a new dam a few meters inside or to leave the dam all together

A bit like all these concrete structures that were built in the second half of the 20th century and are crumbling at the same time due to the 50-60 year lifespan of concrete

Heard yesterday that the iconic palm trees in LA were all planted around the same time, and they’re now reaching the end of their lifecycle all together
