We do more sports talent identification than long term development of talents in Nigeria. By the way the former in my opinion is not a big deal in our context in Nigeria. The real work is long term athletic development.

Memory loss from deep depression and trauma doesn’t get talked about enough. People think it’s just sadness or being stuck in your head, but it goes way deeper than that. You forget conversations, names, whole chunks of your life—not because you didn’t care, but because you were in survival mode. When you’re overwhelmed and just trying to get through each day, your brain isn’t focused on making memories, it’s focused on keeping you going. And nobody really acknowledges that part. Healing isn’t just about emotions—it’s about piecing yourself back together, including parts of you that you don’t even remember losing.

Heres a take of @nmesomachendo on the current realities of the D'Tigress 🇳🇬 in terms of player selection, pathway for home talent and what it means to represent Nigeria. Is this current criteria for selection a sustainable pipeline or will it have it's own shortcomings?

@twitgameboy No SATs, no exams. I did all the applications myself with no help. I also convinced all the universities to give me application fee waivers 😂. I didn’t pay a dime for those things. Sometimes I wonder where that 16 year old is.

@MalickDaho Pallas moved to the Us when she was 15 and Elizabeth moved when she was 13. My point remain the same. 98% of this D'Tigress team were brought up in the American basketball ecosystem. They had early childhood development training. They have the foundation and that set them apart.

The government is not the problem with sports. Sports people are the problem with sports. Until we understand how investment in sports work, we will never get real investment in sports. How does the government invest in sports? What is the role of senate/house committee on sports What is the annual budget for sports? What has the goverment gotten back from sports? If lagos state government invest 50 billion in railway, they can give real numbers on projected earnings or ROI, this in turn will attract investors who will want to put their money in!! But if Lagos goverment put 50 billion in sports, how can they get their money back? What are the numbers? For the investors, are their funds protected? Is there transparency? These are the questions sports people need to answer before Government will start throwing billions into sports. Also don't tell me they haven't tried! The past 2 ministers of sports got billions even for stadium and nothing was done til date.
SKARRA 🇪🇺🇳🇬 ⚽@Tomisin_Alasiri

People keep saying government intervention. We can’t wait for government. Govt that hasn’t fixed Nigeria, will come fix sport. lol.
