@jamesleegilbert @uncarchives I found a reference to the "Joyner Jocks" intramural team in a 1961 DTH, so it may show up in print earlier than 1963. It does seem like early 1960s is when it began to be used regularly. Prior to that, all I could find was Jock as somebody's name or the occasional Jock strap ad.

8/n: I have notes from - presidents’ visits - early pandemic meetings - every single written calendar entry (see below) - I’m a note taker + hoarder. These were before my fiancé bought me the @remarkable. And, now I have to find a way to preserve what are considered “history”.

Every weekend, our goal is to complete our nursery (which is currently storage). # Every weekend, I do science instead. Sooooo this weekend, I reminded myself that science “won’t break my soul” (word to @Beyonce) &&& I’m discovering so many relics from my career in these boxes.

This is fascinating. I had no idea Rameses had so many close relatives. After reading this article it's easy to look back at some old UNC iconography and recognize the work of Angelus Pacific.
