[taps mic] Is this thing on? Have been on a mental health break from this app, but wanted to share some happy news. Stepped away from my novel-in-progress for a moment to get back into the short story game. Happy to have this one forthcoming in the Bellevue Literary Review.

Just learned that my son thinks the line in Take Me Out to the Ball Game is “buy me some peanuts and flappercracks” and now I know what I will be singing for every 7th inning stretch during the playoffs.

@borywrites Histories are often overlooked, but Henry IV part 1 is imho the best Shakespeare play. It is funny, sad, endearing, and tragic. Just so good

I am preparing for a big Shakespeare dive. Back in HS and college I was just not mature enough and didn’t care to read such “old shit.” I’m now older and wiser. Where should I start? Plays only, for now. Anything but Romeo and Juliet. I’m all ears.

Something I’ve noticed is that writers use the phrase “had had” once per book

Writing novels is 90% getting excited about a PERFECT new idea for a book and then discovering somebody already wrote it.

"I think if somebody calls you on that, what you do is at least listen. And I want the American people to know what a Kentuckian is and what they look like. Because let me just tell you that JD Vance ain't from here." — @GovAndyBeshear on the possibility of running for VP

Anyone who’s followed me very long knows my stance on Vance and what he is, and while I’m all for any moment of centering Appalachia, in the current moment much of the response strikes me more as a sales pitch and right now there are much, much bigger fish to fry.

I'm glad people are looking for other books about Appalachia, but I'm tired of seeing the same picks in all of these lists. There's a ton of great writing out there. Be more adventurous in your reading. Work for it. Don't rely on the predictable content of influencers.
