The best installment in the Tales of the City series is Significant Others because every single one of the characters needs, desperately, to be loved. Not strictly romantically but wholly, in a way that honors and knows every part and still, for always, chooses to stay.

Maupin is one of my favorite authors. in every book is the desire to be loved & the fear to be seen & here it is, its crystallized form; the aching need to be wanted, held, and understood. to be believed, beyond a shadow of a doubt, and to be loved unconditionally despite it.

top down martyrdom only works in media systems where there is distinct control over flow of information & critique. diffuse information via decentralized media system (podcasts, social media) don’t have the proper Control to fully instrumentalise the memory of someone

when kirk was killed there was a concentrated effort by the State and the Right to turn him into an untouchable martyr, to only be worshipped, to punish anyone who didnt toe that line. Every dumb meme of kirk is people, consciously or not, rejecting being forced into that.

@b_wheat_crush in 2019 when i broke my ankle i had to wear sweatpants to work because they could fit easily over the cast and i hated it. i felt like such a bum

I'm especially disgusted by sweatpants in public nowadays compared to the 90s and early aughts because stretch fabrics in jeans are ubiquitous now that I see sweatpants as a sign of disgusting laziness.

My most conservative belief is that sweatpants are unbecoming
