Granted I am watching The Pitt at age 45 but I would move into assisted living tomorrow if they would take me. Why wouldn't you want meals cooked, sheets changed and activities planned?

If you want to really annoy your tax preparer, refuse to sign your S Corp return until you see your personal because you might have more expenses. You get bonus points if you don't actually provide your personal info at the same time.

@nobletaxhelp 😂 it's a pretty low threshold this time of year. I may get annoyed at much lesser offenses.

@mountainwesttax Yes but do you have 20 savings accounts at different banks each making 30 in interest per year for no reason? That is when you are really elite.

If I have learned one thing from competition tv shows, it is don't give people a reason to dismiss you. Never admit anything went wrong.

@JulieChangRE One good use case is only one person in a married couple qualifies for a mortgage but they are using both incomes to pay the mortgage. When my wife and I bought my house, the underwriters were making me pay 1% of my student loans for DTI when I was actually paying .1%

Not surprising Why does someone go FHA? Instead of conventional? They have poor credit They need to go ABOVE 50% DTI (debt to income ratio) This is on GROSS income. Yes before you pay taxes or have healthcare deductions How does a person eat and pay for a car and gas and utilities if over half your gross income is going to housing PITI? Great question
Lance Lambert@NewsLambert

ICE Mortgage Technology: "serious delinquencies and foreclosures are now at a multi-year high driven by lower cure rates rather than new defaults. FHA loans are driving 80% of this increase."

@SparkleCate To be fair, probably half of these were people telling me things weren't coming so the returns were already done. I am fast but not that fast.

@nobletaxhelp That's still 7 minutes and 30 seconds for each return?!? I can barely get the workpapers and tax software file open for a client in that time. Great work!!!

I was stressed because nothing was actually getting completed. Then this morning the clouds parted and in five hours I finalized 40 returns with that one missing piece that apparently everyone got at 2am this morning. So many 1098s for second mortgages and 300 buck W2s.

@mountainwesttax I saw 68k. That's my record this year. I can't even imagine the level of care I would need before that would seem reasonable

@nobletaxhelp @Taxsavvyjessica I have very strong opinions. 1. I think Star Wars is overrated as a movie. Could have been better with a better writer. 2. I think DC comics are better than Marvel comics. 3. Tart is better than sweet. 4. but.. sweet tarts are the best combination

S Corp first year filing was 2019 and for whatever reason marked Accrual. Books have always been on cash. Would you just leave it and keep reporting on cash basis even though it says accrual or file a zero change 3115?

@Taxsavvyjessica Some first year preparer probably checked a box, no one noticed, and now here we are 6 years and two firms later. I'm just going to check it as cash and move on with my life but I was wondering if people had strong opinions

I prepare taxes for a mother and son. The son struggled a lot during early Covid with the mom supporting him. Now he makes mid six figures but his mom still transfers several thousand a month to him. She won't believe that he is self sufficent now no matter what we say to her.

I feel like a lot of people didn't read the whole book when they talk about Project Hail Mary or they have an incredibly selective memory.

@nobletaxhelp I send the “we haven’t heard from you despite multiple requests, so I assume you’ve made other arrangements and won’t be filing an extension” email and that usually gets the slackers moving. Or not. But then I figure it’s on them…which it is anyway but I like to say it clearly.

Definitely the time of year when I am sending reminders to people about signing engagement letters for extensions and weighing whether the money is worth the hassle.
